Car changing is a big deal
Tesla has just announced that a seven-seat version of its Model Y SUV is now available to order in the UK, broadening its appeal and making it a tempting alternative to the Mercedes EQB and Peugeot E-5008.
The Tesla Model Y is one of the UK’s best-selling electric cars, and now you can get one even if you have five kids to ferry around. A seven-seater version is available with prices starting from £54,490.
It serves as an alternative to other electric seven-seaters like the Mercedes EQB and Peugeot E-5008, but should you consider it? Let’s take a look at the stats.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
New Tesla Model Y seven-seater price and specs
You can only get the new seven-seat Tesla Model Y in Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive trim, which is the second most expensive version. It usually starts from £51,990, but you pay an additional £2,500 for the extra pair of seats bringing the total to £54,490.

That makes it a couple of thousand pounds more expensive than a Mercedes EQB and £8,500 more than a Peugeot E-5008. However, the Model Y does come with plenty of kit as standard.
All cars get a glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, adaptive cruise control and surround-view cameras.

The Model Y also has a huge boot, even in seven-seater form. You get 381 litres of space with the third row in place, over 30 litres more than you get in a Peugeot E-5008.
New Tesla Model Y seven-seater batteries and range
The Model Y Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive usually has up to 391 miles of range, but in the seven-seat version this drops to 372 miles. That’s 63 miles more than a basic Peugeot E-5008. However, you can get a version of that car with a larger battery and 413 miles of range which still costs less than the Tesla.

You get the same 175kW fast charging capability, meaning you can go from 20-80% in just 25 minutes, or add up to 165 miles in 15 minutes.
We’ll be putting the seven-seat Tesla Model Y to the test as soon as we can get our hands on it, so keep an eye on the Carwow website for a full review. We’ll show you how practical those new rear seats are, test the real-world range and see how it drives.

On paper, this is a compelling alternative to a Peugeot E-5008. It may be more expensive on paper, but by the time you’ve specced the Peugeot to the sporty GT trim and added the largest battery that price gap closes significantly.
