Car changing is a big deal
Jaguar Land Rover confirms data was ‘affected’ in last week’s cyber attack, but the full impact is still unclear.
British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has confirmed that “some data has been affected” following a cyberattack last week.
The company detected the breach on Tuesday, prompting it to shut down operations and ask staff to remain at home while it investigates the incident.
Production staff are not expected to return to work until at least Monday, according to reports.
A company spokesperson said: “Since becoming aware of the cyber incident, we have been working around the clock, alongside third-party cybersecurity specialists, to restart our global applications safely. As a result of our ongoing investigation, we now believe that some data has been affected, and we are informing the relevant regulators.
“Our forensic investigation continues at pace, and we will contact anyone if we find that their data has been impacted.”
It’s not yet clear exactly what information was accessed, with the spokesperson adding:
“We are very sorry for the continued disruption this incident is causing and will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.”

What this means for JLR customers
The recent cyber attack at JLR may cause delays in new car deliveries, as production at the company’s factories has been temporarily paused. But customers shouldn’t worry about sales or service – dealerships are still operating normally, so you can continue to book appointments and have your car serviced.
On the personal data side, the company is investigating whether any customer information was accessed. JLR will reach out directly to anyone affected, but in the meantime, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your accounts for anything unusual.
The company also plans to update local MPs about the situation, while the hacking group Scattered Spider has claimed responsibility for the attack.
