Jump from the hard-top to the Cabriolet, and – bar the fabric roof – there’s very little to differentiate the cabins: you get the same dash design, the same layout and the same satisfactory build quality. The overall fit-and-finish, as with the standard Beetle, isn’t quite up to the standards of other VW products.

Build quality is good but not Golf-level good
