Car changing is a big deal
Mat Watson has found some tempting deals on the Volkswagen Tayron – a posh seven-seater with plenty of interior space and loads of tech on board.
This is the Volkswagen Tayron, and it’s a very good seven-seater SUV if you’re after something premium, roomy and good to drive.
My biggest criticism of this car is the price, because it costs a fair bit more than some alternatives. However, I’ve found a great lease deal on Carwow this week which makes it look much more tempting.
Here are three reasons to consider a new Tayron as your next car, as well as some tips on how to get the best deal.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
Three good things about the Volkswagen Tayron
1. It’s really spacious
There’s loads of room inside the Volkswagen Tayron. You get plenty of space up front to get comfortable behind the wheel, acres of legroom in the middle row and you can even fit adults in the third row of seats for short journeys. You also get a massive 850-litre boot in five-seat mode, more than a Skoda Kodiaq or a Peugeot 5008 can offer.
2. The interior is lovely

The Tayron’s interior lives up to its premium badge, because it looks and feels really posh inside. Material quality is excellent throughout, and everything feels nice and solid. I also like the optional wood trim on the lower dashboard – it adds a touch of class.
3. It’s really good to drive

This seven seater is a doddle to live with, because it’s manoeuvrable around town, refined on the motorway and easy to thread down a country road. It may not be all that fun, but the quiet cabin and perfectly weighted controls make it a pleasure to drive.
Volkswagen Tayron deals: why leasing one makes the most sense
The Volkswagen Tayron starts from £41,635, making it a bit more expensive than the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008, and over £7,000 more than an MG S9.

However, if you lease a Tayron over three years and 30,000 miles, the prices are much more tempting. You can get this car for £355.50 per month at the time of writing, with an initial payment of £4,536. That’s a total of £16,978.
By comparison, the MG S9 costs £348 per month with a £4,525 up-front payment – bringing it to a total of £16,692.
So you only pay around £300 more for the VW over three years. The MG may be better-equipped as standard, but if you care about how a car drives then I’d recommend spending the extra – the S9 isn’t as comfortable or refined as the Tayron.
Three annoying things about the Volkswagen Tayron
As good as the Tayron is, it’s not perfect. Here are three annoying things about this car.
1. You can’t get a seven-seater hybrid

If you want a plug-in hybrid with space for seven, you’ll have to check out the Chery Tiggo 8 or the MG S9. Like the Skoda Kodiaq, you can’t get the Tayron with a hybrid engine and seven seats.
2. R-Line models are less comfortable
If you go for the Tayron R-Line you get larger wheels and a more sporty suspension setup, but this makes it firmer over bumps than the standard car. It doesn’t make it much more fun either, but it’s still nicer to drive than a Chery Tiggo 8.
3. The infotainment system is fiddly

Most of the Tayron’s controls, including the temperature and fan speed, are operated through either the touchscreen or a selection of annoying touch-sensitive sliders. The infotainment system itself is also a bit confusing to navigate. It’s a good job you get wireless phone mirroring as standard, so you rarely need to use VW’s menus.
