If you ask any car enthusiast which is the most charismatic of all motoring brands, they’ll probably say Alfa Romeo. No, not Ferrari (Enzo Ferrari was originally employed by Alfa, of course…) and certainly not Lamborghini nor Porsche. 

Alfa Romeo is one of the longest-lived car makers, and while it has certainly had its ups and downs over the century-plus-change it’s been making cars, it has also provided us with some of the most beautiful and enjoyable cars of all time, from the original ‘Duetto’ Spider sports car, to the Alfasud hatchback, to the 156 and 147 of the 1990s and 2000s, Alfa has been the go-to car maker for something a bit more passionate than the commuter-car norm.

Of course, that also has come with a hefty dollop of a reputation for rust (fixed years ago) and unreliability (not completely eradicated), so you have to be understanding to own one sometimes. Still, with cars such as the Giulia, the Junior, and the Stelvio, you’re getting a car that looks and feels a cut above the herd. 

Why lease an Alfa Romeo?

The primary advantage of having an Alfa Romeo is driving fun — the likes of the Giulia saloon and the Stelvio SUV are more enjoyable behind the wheel than most of their competition — as well as the sense of having something sculptural on your driveway to look fondly back at. 

Leasing makes huge sense if you fancy an Alfa, as they tend to have lower residual value than an equivalent BMW or Audi, so leasing keeps you protected — to an extent — from the steeper depreciation curve. 

With Alfa’s unlovely reputation for unreliability in the frame too, a lease with a servicing and maintenance plan seems like a good idea for peace of mind.

Of course, at the end, you won’t actually own your Alfa Romeo, but you will have saved yourself some money compared to taking out a PCP or HP loan, and you might have saved yourself some reliability headaches too.
