If you’ve missed going on a night out to the cinema or the comedy club and missed driving your car during lockdown, then this summer’s hottest attraction could be just the ticket – drive-in experiences.
What could be better than watching a great show from the comfort of your own car? Here’s carwow’s best cars to take to the drive-in movies.
OK, it’s maybe not the coolest thing on four wheels, but it’s one of the most practical.
You need cupholders for your drinks, handy trays for your snacks then Touran could be for you – it does all the practical stuff really well. It’s roomy enough to take the whole family, too.
Bentley Continental GT Convertible
If you want the best open-air cinema experience then you really need the best convertible to enjoy it in. Step forward the Bentley Continental GT Convertible.
It’s fast, beautifully made and you can personalise it to meet your exact tastes. And if it starts to rain at the drive-in, then its folding fabric roof can be raised in 19 seconds.
At many drive-ins, the sound is broadcast through your car’s radio, so you’ll want a car with a decent sound system to cope – and the optional Bowers & Wilkins system you can have in the XC60 is one of the very best. With a suite of speakers around the cabin, everyone inside is able to listen to high-quality audio.
The system has a tweeter on the dashboard which points back into the cabin rather than up onto the windscreen to further enhance the sound. It’s a cool-looking SUV, too.
With comfortable seats for all seven passengers – yes even those in the third row – the BMW X7 is the drive-in movie car if you want to bring the crew in comfort. There’s the added bonus of offering a towering view over the other cars as you watch the movie, too.
And just like the cinema where you can upgrade to the posh seats, with the BMW X7 you can get the optional six-seat layout with extra comfy captain style seats for row two.
1960 Cadillac deVille Coupe
Let’s not beat around the bush…You want to go to a drive-in movie to smooch with your sweetheart. And to do that in true retro-Americana style you need the Cadillac deVille, with its single front bench that’s ideal when you want to snuggle up with your passenger. With its fixed roof, you’ll have plenty of privacy too.
