Car changing is a big deal
In 2025 BMW pranked us for April Fools with the M3 Touring GT3 EVO: an all-out racecar based on a practical family estate. Well it seems this idea was too good to leave as a joke, because now BMW has actually built it to compete at the Nurburgring 24-Hour race.
This is the new BMW M3 Touring 24H, and it’s got an insane story behind it. Back in the spring of 2025, BMW unveiled pictures which showed an M3 Touring GT3 racecar which was supposedly in development, before pulling the rug out from under us saying it was all an April Fools joke.
Well the response from journalists and fans was so immense, with the video generating over 1.6 million views that BMW has now decided to make this joke a reality. The BMW M3 Touring 24H will compete in the fearsome Nurburgring 24-hour race in May.

New BMW M3 Touring 24H: engine and technical details
Underneath that estate body, the BMW M3 Touring 24H shares the same basic engine and suspension setup as the BMW M4 GT3 Evo – a coupe which has already won multiple races over the past couple of years.

This means it has a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder engine which puts out 590hp, and this is sent to the rear wheels only via a six-speed sequential gearbox.

As you’d expect, the suspension is massively beefed-up compared to a roadgoing M3. There are thicker anti-roll bars, solid bushes in place of rubber ones and it sits much lower to the ground than any M3 Touring you’ve seen before.
New BMW M3 Touring 24H: design and bodywork
The most obvious design change here compared to a standard BMW M3 Touring is that massive rear wing. That’s needed to provide downforce through all 73 gruelling corners the Nurburgring has to offer, and that massive lower diffuser also aids with aerodynamics and downforce.

You get massively flared front and rear wheel arches to accommodate the huge tyres this thing needs to grip the track, and there’s another vent behind the front wing to let air escape from the front arch.
BMW has also come up with an awesome racing livery for this car: it’s covered in comments from fans on social media begging for it to build this car after it was first revealed as a joke in 2025. Across the rear, the M3 Touring 24H simply says: #webuiltit.
Where can I see the new BMW M3 Touring 24H?
This car will be competing in the Nurburgring 24-hour race in May this year, driven by four BMW M Works drivers. It won’t be competing directly against the M4 GT3 EVO though, as that car is racing in a different class.

You may also see this car on display at various BMW events in the future, but don’t get your hopes up for this hardcore race car to be made available for purchase. The M3 CS Touring is as extreme as you’ll get on the road.
