About the BMW

Does BMW really need an introduction? The Ultimate Driving Machine, as the 1980s ads would have it? Maybe there are still some who don’t know?

BMW has been around since the 1920s when it started by making copies of an Austin 7, no less, but it really came to prominence in the 1980s, when it cracked the equation of selling wildly desirable, fun-to-drive cars at – almost – affordable prices. Since then, the likes of the 3 Series and 5 Series have become commonplace, yet no less desirable, while the SUV models – X3, and X5 especially – have become runaway successes.

Even when converting to electric power, BMW doesn’t seem to have lost its magic touch: the original i3 EV hatchback is a design classic, and while the current iX electric SUV is considered marmite, it’s still terrific to drive.

That’s without even discussing the famed M-cars, which are BMW’s sporty models, ranging from the compact 480hp M2 coupe to the mighty M5 and M5 Touring estate, which combines V8 petrol power with plug-in hybrid tech for 727hp.

Why lease a BMW?

BMWs have long been popular as company cars, so if you’re a user-chooser with a company car budget to spend, leasing makes a huge deal of sense.

It’s also a good idea to get a lease with a servicing or maintenance package, as BMWs are often complex cars that need careful servicing and attention to keep them at their best.

BMW’s move to electric models – it currently sells the i3, iX3, i4, i5, and i7 – also means that leasing makes sense, as it means you’re not locked into buying and owning one longer term if battery or charging technology makes a sudden move.

Unlike when you buy on Hire Purchase or PCP, there’s usually no option to keep your car at the end of the lease – it will have to be returned, but leasing companies make that easy to do.

Leasing programmes can also offer other benefits such as fully-inclusive packages that cover your servicing, insurance, VED tax, and even fresh sets of tyres.

BMW lease car FAQs

Yes, you can. You can find your ideal BMW lease right here on Carwow, or you can check out BMW’s own in-house leasing deals.
You can usually end a lease early. But keep in mind that if you do, there are often penalty clauses and termination payments which can be expensive. Read the fine print before you commit.
You can, but as with so much it will depend on the fine print of your lease agreement. BMW usually allows a six-month extension to a lease, but usually only if you’re waiting for the delivery of a new BMW.
It can do. Not all leases include maintenance as standard, but you can almost always add it on as an extra cost.
It depends on what you need, but leasing a BMW is a pretty painless way to drive a premium car, for a fixed monthly cost around which it’s easy to budget.
Right now, the cheapest Carwow BMW lease is for a 1 Series hatchback, starting from £336 per month.
They’re no better nor worse than any other car when it comes to leasing – leasing is more about what you need and can afford than the individual car.
It might be difficult. As with any financial agreement, your leasing provider may do a credit check, and if you have bad credit, you may not be approved. That said, there are specialist leasing companies which can offer deals to those with bad credit histories, but you’d likely end up paying more.
