China vs Japan: we compare the popular Nissan Qashqai to the great-value Chery Tiggo 7

I’ve compared one of the UK’s best-selling SUVs with a Chinese alternative to see which has the better equipment and offers the best value across new, used and lease deals.

For years, the Nissan Qashqai has been one of the best-selling cars in the UK. As a handsome, easy-to-drive family SUV with a great hybrid option, it’s no surprise that it’s so popular.

But put it up against one of the newer Chinese alternatives, which is known for offering more equipment for its money, and you begin to wonder whether the Qashqai is worth all the fuss.

To find out, we’ve compared the Nissan Qashqai with the Chery Tiggo 7 on equipment, pricing and the latest new, used and lease deals to help you decide which SUV is the smarter choice.

To keep things like-for-like, we’ve based this comparison on two models that sit in a similar price bracket and both come with 1.5-litre hybrid engines. We’ve used the Tekna Qashqai, with a starting price of £35,025, and the top-spec Summit Tiggo 7, priced from £32,995.

Which has better equipment?

First up, let’s compare their range and equipment when buying new. Both cars come with plenty of standard kit, but which one gives you more for your money?

Here’s a breakdown of what each car comes with:

As the table above shows, both models give you the same amount of equipment, however you will find a 540-degree surround view camera and a remote HVAC start in the Tiggo 7, as well as eight speakers instead of six.

Which is cheaper to buy new?

Up next, let’s look at how much it costs to buy each car. As you’re more likely to finance a car than buy it outright, we’ll use PCP finance for our next set of calculations. This flexible finance option covers much of the car’s expected depreciation through monthly payments, rather than requiring you to pay the full purchase price upfront.

For these calculations, we used Nissan and Chery’s own websites and assumed a three-year term, annual mileage of up to 10,000 miles and a £5,000 deposit for both cars. We’ve also assumed that you return the car at the end of the agreement.

Note that, at the time of writing, the Tiggo 7 was available with 0% APR and an annual fixed interest rate, while the Qashqai was available with 2.49% APR and an annual fixed interest rate. We also used the Tekna version of the Qashqai, which has a starting price of £35,025.

Here’s a breakdown of all the costs you can expect:

If you want to keep the car, there’s an optional final payment of £14,700 for the Qashqai and £13,500 for the Tiggo 7.

The figures above show that it’s almost £2,500 cheaper to buy the Tiggo 7 than the Qashqai on the same finance terms and annual mileage. This is largely because the Tiggo 7 is available with 0% APR finance, so you don’t pay any interest on top of your monthly payments. The Tiggo 7 in this trim is £2,000 cheaper than the comparable Qashqai to begin with too.

This is a good reminder that it’s always worth checking for 0% APR finance incentives when comparing deals, as they can make a significant difference to the total cost of buying a car.

Which is cheaper to buy used?

Buying used is another option to consider. We compared the two models on Carwow to see which worked out cheapest. For this comparison, we looked for like-for-like hybrid models that were registered in the same year.

We found two used examples from 2025, both with less than 5,000 miles on the clock. Here’s how much they cost:

This shows that, even with less mileage, you can snap up a Qashqai for less than a Chery Tiggo 7.

One thing to note is that there are far more Qashqai models on the used market because it’s been around for much longer. It’s been on sale in the UK since 2007, while the Tiggo 7 only arrived in the UK in September 2025.

This gives you a better chance of finding a bargain, so it’s always worth shopping around and considering older models if you’re looking to save money.

Also remember that used-car prices and availability can change all the time, so you may find an even better deal if you shop around at the right time.

Which is cheaper to lease?

You can also consider leasing. As with the PCP deals, we’ve assumed a three-year lease, 10,000 miles per year and a 12-month initial payment. The figures are based on a hybrid Nissan Qashqai Tekna and a Chery Tiggo 7 Summit.

Here are some leasing deals available on Carwow at the time of writing and how they stack up against each other:

These deals show that you can save over £3,000 by leasing the Tiggo 7 over three years compared with the Qashqai. You’ll also pay around £780 less upfront and around £63 less per month for the Tiggo 7. It shows that it’s worth considering leasing alongside PCP when looking for the best deal.

So, which one is the best value?

Ultimately, the better choice depends on how you plan to buy and run the car. The Chery Tiggo 7 offers better value if you’re buying through PCP finance, thanks to its 0% APR deal, while the Nissan Qashqai can be cheaper to buy used because there are more second-hand examples on the market.

The Tiggo 7 also comes with more equipment as standard than the Qashqai, and you may find cheaper lease deals on the hybrid version than on an equivalent Qashqai. It’s worth comparing the overall cost, as well as the equipment and features you actually need.
