About the Lotus
There aren’t many car brands that you can buy which come with a history of winning the Formula One World Championship, but Lotus is one such, and stands up there with the likes of Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes when it comes to winning F1 titles. The brand really made its name back in the 1960s, with cars such as the gorgeous little Elan sports car, and F1 titles with the likes of Jim Clark and Graham Hill.
In the seventies, Lotus hit the big time with even more world titles, and a starring role in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me, with that famous Esprit that turned into a submarine.
In the years since, Lotus has left F1 (sadly) and bounced around between owners, but it hit a peak in the 1990s with the brilliant, light, simple Elise sports car, and now under Chinese ownership it’s branching out into luxury EV saloons and SUVs, as well as keeping a more traditional petrol-engined sports car in production.
Lotus is one of those brands that everyone has heard of, but few have actually owned, so you’re definitely marking yourself out as a true car enthusiast if you sign up for a Lotus lease.
Why lease a Lotus?
Leasing a car, any car, is a great idea as long as you’re comfortable with not actually owning anything at the end of the process. While that’s not ideal for everyone, when it comes to Lotus, it can be a very good idea, as all of its three current models — the Emira sports car, the Emeya electric saloon, and the Eletre electric SUV — suffer from quite heavy depreciation, and so a lease can help to protect you from the worst ravages of that.
Equally, with an increasing emphasis on electric models by Lotus, a lease can make it easier for you to upgrade and get into the next-generation technology models which will inevitably arrive in the next couple of years — you don’t want to get stuck with an EV that’s suddenly obsolete because someone has created a clever new battery.
Finally, there’s Lotus’s reputation for mechanical fragility, which while it’s not as bad as it once was, means that a lease — especially one that covers all your regular maintenance — will mean more peace of mind.
