Jaecoo outsells Citroen in 2025 – how have other Chinese brands done?

Car changing is a big deal
New 2025 SMMT figures show Jaecoo leading car sales ahead of Citroen and SEAT, with other Chinese brands also making their mark in the UK.
Jaecoo is one of the fastest-growing automotive brands in the UK, recording 28,232 new car registrations in 2025, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This is quite the milestone for the Chinese brand, which only launched in the UK in January 2025.
The Jaecoo 7 accounted for 26,048 of these registrations, making it the fourth most popular car in the UK since its launch in January 2025. What’s more, Jaecoo has also surpassed more established car brands, such as Citroen and SEAT, which recorded 20,732 and 23,015 new registrations in 2025, respectively.

But how well did other Chinese brands fare against more mainstream manufacturers?
First up is BYD, which recorded an impressive 51,422 new car registrations in 2025 – a huge leap from the 8,788 cars it sold in 2024. The manufacturer also outperformed Tesla, which sold 45,513 cars last year.
Then there’s Omoda, which saw 19,855 new registrations in 2025 – over 1,600 more than Japanese brand Suzuki, which recorded 18,226 sales.
Although it only launched in the UK in early September 2025, Chery – which also owns Jaecoo and Omoda – sold 5,517 cars in under four months. That’s more than the total number of cars Smart (1,770) and Subaru (2,144) sold across the entire year.
Heard of Leapmotor? Well, there are 4,273 cars with their badges now on our roads. That’s almost 2,700 more cars than what Korean brand KGM sold in 2025 (1,574 cars).
