In response to the 2025 Autumn Budget, Chinese brands Omoda and Jaecoo have launched an EV tax rebate worth the equivalent of 20,000 miles, offering drivers early savings ahead of the UK’s future pay-per-mile tax.

Omoda & Jaecoo UK has announced a new EV Tax Rebate for its fully electric Omoda E5 and Jaecoo E5 SUVs – and it’s designed to give drivers a head start on a future electric car tax that hasn’t even arrived yet.

In the 2025 Autumn Budget, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced that from 2028-29, electric car drivers will pay 3p per mile. To get ahead of that, Omoda & Jaecoo are offering customers the equivalent of 20,000 miles at 3p per mile, funded directly by the manufacturer. In simple terms: you save yourself around £600 of the upcoming tax.

The rebate is available right now for anyone buying one of the two models through the brand’s national retailer network using an approved 48-month finance plan. Although the tax itself is still three years away, Omoda & Jaecoo says giving the saving upfront means drivers can benefit immediately while still being protected against future running costs.

Gary Lan, CEO of Omoda & Jaecoo UK, said the goal is to make switching to electric “as smooth as possible” for customers.

“Our EV Tax Rebate for the Omoda E5 and Jaecoo E5 effectively covers the first few years of this new tax, giving drivers the equivalent of thousands of miles of zero-cost motoring,” he said. “These cars represent the forefront of electric mobility, and this initiative reflects our commitment to making clean, efficient, and intelligent transportation more accessible to UK drivers from day one.”

What’s on offer?

Omoda E5 (MY25)

This updated model packs a 61 kWh battery and an estimated 267-mile WLTP range. Charging has been improved too, with faster DC (130kW) and AC (10.3kW) options, plus an integrated heat pump for better efficiency in cold weather. Comfort upgrades include a new adjustable passenger seat.

I find the Omoda E5 gives you impressive tech at an affordable price and is enjoyable to drive. The design feels smart, materials feel premium, and the soft suspension soaks up bumps well. The steering is precise, though there’s noticeable tyre noise at higher speeds.

Jaecoo E5 Luxury

The newer addition to the range also features a 61kWh LFP battery, a 207hp motor, and up to 248 miles of range. It goes from 0-62 mph in 7.7 seconds, and can charge from 30-80% in 27 minutes with DC fast charging up to 110 kW. Home charging at 11kW AC is supported too.

I find that the Jaecoo E5 ticks all the basics: it’s reasonably priced, reasonably practical, and offers a reasonable range. It doesn’t excel in any one area, but that’s part of its charm. Sure, it’s a bit bland to look at, and the front end feels unfinished compared with some alternatives, but like a classic margherita pizza, it does exactly what you need without fuss.
