If you’re after a comfortable, spacious, seven-seater family car for less than £25,000, Mat Watson has found a great deal on a used Skoda Kodiaq.

The Skoda Kodiaq is a bit like the friend your parents always wanted you to have. The sort who doesn’t pressure you into going to wild parties or getting into trouble with the law, but is fiercely loyal and clever enough to help with your maths homework.

What I mean by that is it’s not a particularly exciting car, you won’t tell stories of the time you took your Kodiaq to the supermarket, but it’s dependable, practical and really easy to get along with.

The Kodiaq has also been around long enough now for there to be some great used deals out there. Here are three reasons I think you should consider buying a second-hand Skoda Kodiaq.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Three good things about the Skoda Kodiaq

1. There’s loads of space inside

The Skoda Kodiaq is one of the most spacious family SUVs around. You get loads of cabin storage up front, acres of legroom in the rear and a massive 720-litre boot in five-seater models. Going for the seven seater does drop this to 630 litres with the rearmost seats folded, but you gain the ability to ferry your kids and all their mates around should the need arise. There’s still 270 litres of boot space when all the seats are in use, too.

2. Skoda’s simply clever features

Skoda is always coming up with ways of making your life easier, and the Kodiaq is full of neat touches. You can get a little rubbish bin for the door pocket to keep snotty tissues out of sight and out of mind, and there’s an umbrella in the driver’s door. You also get handy pop-out door protectors to prevent damage by opening the door into the car next to you.

3. It’s nice to drive

There are loads of great engine options in the Skoda Kodiaq, all of which are smooth and powerful enough. It’s also quiet on the motorway, feels secure on a country road and it’s easy to drive in town, even if the suspension is a tad firm over bumps.

Used Skoda Kodiaq deals

A new Skoda Kodiaq starts from just under £40,000, but I reckon a used example of the previous generation car is a bit of a bargain.

I found this 2023 Kodiaq Executive seven-seater for just under £25,000 through Carwow. It’s got less than 24,000 miles on the clock, and being a high-spec example it has loads of kit. You get heated leather seats, cruise control, a 10.3-inch digital driver’s display and wireless smartphone mirroring.

If you’d prefer the new car smell and a full warranty, you can save an average of £4,700 on a new Kodiaq through Carwow at the time of writing. However, for maximum value for money, this used car is really tempting.

Three annoying things about the Skoda Kodiaq

As good as it is, the old Skoda Kodiaq isn’t perfect. Here are three annoying things to consider before buying.

1. Poor rear visibility

You may get a good view forwards, but the Kodiaq does have a big blind spot over your shoulders thanks to the thick C-pillars. It can make pulling out at junctions a pain, and tight parking spaces can be tricky as well. If possible, you may want to find a car with the 360-degree camera system.

2. Jerky automatic gearbox

At slow speeds, the automatic gearbox isn’t great. It can be a bit hesitant to pull away, and manoeuvring is made tricky by its slightly jerky nature. Manual Kodiaqs are hard to come by though, so I’d recommend test driving the automatic to see how you get on with it.

3. Rubbish cupholders

Skoda may have got most of the practicality features right, but the cupholders miss the mark. They don’t grip bottles tightly enough, so they’ll fly out when you go around a corner, and they aren’t big enough for a flask either.
