Buying a Skoda Kodiaq: why leasing makes good sense
I found a great lease deal on the Skoda Kodiaq SE. It costs £39,000 new, and if you kept it for three years and 30,000 miles you’d lose about £20,500 in depreciation according to Cap HPI – an industry body for car valuations.
However, you can lease a Kodiaq through Carwow for £284 per month with a £3,710 up-front payment. This is over three years, with a mileage limit of 10,000 per year, meaning it’ll cost you a total of £13,700.
It may be the basic Kodiaq, but you still get plenty of kit as standard. It comes with a 13.0-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a reversing camera.

1. It’s hugely practical
This five-seater version of the Kodiaq has a massive 910-litre boot, which is a whopping 345 litres more than a Nissan X-Trail has to offer. The rear seats are also really roomy, and there’s loads of interior storage as well. This is an ideal family bus.
2. The interior is simple and well-made
Skoda no longer lives in Volkswagen’s shadow when it comes to interior quality, because the Kodiaq feels every bit as posh as the German competition. I like the physical switchgear as well, with proper knobs for the climate control making it feel more user-friendly than a Volkswagen Tayron.
3. It’s really comfortable
We once used a Skoda Kodiaq as a camera tracking car on a drive all the way from London to Scotland for a video shoot, and it was the perfect car for the job. The seats are comfy and supportive, it’s quiet at motorway speeds and the suspension soaks up the bumps really nicely. It’s a brilliant cruiser.
Three annoying things about the Skoda Kodiaq
As good as this car is, it’s not perfect. Here are three annoying things about the Skoda Kodiaq.
1. Tight third row
If you do go for a seven-seater Kodiaq, be warned that the third row is only really suitable for kids. A Hyundai Santa Fe is a better bet for carrying seven adults, and it’s the one to choose if you want a plug-in hybrid seven-seater – you can’t get that option on the Kodiaq.
2. Some of the options are pricey
Features such as adaptive cruise control and keyless entry are optional on this car, costing £845 and £1,155 respectively. These come as standard on a Chery Tiggo 8, so if it’s value for money you’re after then check out that car.
3. It’s not all that exciting
The Skoda Kodiaq is brilliant, but in a fairly boring way. It’s not as stylish as a Peugeot 5008, and it’s not as fun to drive as a used BMW X5 for similar money. But if you’re after something which will ferry your family around in a fuss-free fashion, look no further than the Kodiaq.
