Mat Watson has found some cracking lease deals on the Volkswagen ID4, and here are a few reasons he thinks you should shortlist this electric SUV.

The ID4 was Volkswagen’s first electric SUV, and even though it’s been around for six years it still holds up as a practical and comfy family car. We’ve been living with one for the last six months, and there’s a lot to like about it.

I’m going to run through three reasons I think you should get a Volkswagen ID4, as well as three drawbacks which may put you off.

Three reasons to buy a Volkswagen ID4

1. It’s really roomy inside

There’s plenty of space in the Volkswagen ID4 to get comfortable. You get loads of adjustment in the front seats, as well as big cubbies in the centre console and door pockets. The rear seats are roomy as well, even for taller adults.

2. It’s comfortable to drive

It may not be a sporty B-road blaster, but as a comfy cruiser the Volkswagen ID4 is great. It soaks up bumps in the road, the seats are nice and supportive and it’s quiet on the motorway. I like the adjustable driver’s armrest as well – it makes it feel like you’re sitting in an armchair.

3. It’s cheap to lease

I’ve found some great lease deals on the Volkswagen ID4 which could see you behind the wheel for £349 per month. It’s over four years with a mileage limit of 5,000 per year, and the up-front payment is £4,184. You can also up the mileage limit to 10,000 per year for an extra £9 per month.

Three annoying things about the Volkswagen ID4

1. The interior is bland

The ID4’s cabin is a pretty dark and dingy affair, with plenty of black and grey plastics and no real design flair. A Peugeot E-3008 looks more exciting inside, and it feels a bit posher as well.

2. The boot isn’t great

At 543 litres, the ID4’s boot is a decent size on paper. However, the floor is really high, which makes loading heavy items a pain, and it’s not as versatile as a Volkswagen Tiguan thanks to the lack of sliding rear seats. There’s no front boot either.

3. The infotainment system is fiddly

Everything in the Volkswagen ID4 is controlled through the central touchscreen, and it’s not the most intuitive to use. I also don’t like the touch sensitive sliders which you use to adjust the temperature, and the touch sensitive steering wheel buttons are annoying as well.
