If you’re after a hugely practical family car which also turns heads, Mat Watson reckons you can’t go wrong with a used Volkswagen ID Buzz.

The Volkswagen ID Buzz looks like nothing else on the road. In a world dominated by SUVs, VW has managed to make the humble MPV cool, while still being a really practical way of moving your family around.

It’s quite expensive to buy new, but you can get around that by checking out used deals through Carwow. First though, here are three reasons you should consider a Volkswagen ID Buzz.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

1. It’s hugely practical

I bet you can’t name another EV as practical as the Volkswagen ID Buzz, unless you start looking at crew cab vans. The 1,121-litre boot is almost comically big, beating the Skoda Enyaq by over 500 litres.

You can also get a seven-seater version of the ID Buzz, and having been ferried around for several hours in these cars I can tell you it’s really roomy for all passengers.

2. I like driving it

There’s something about driving the Volkswagen ID Buzz which just makes you feel good. You sit up really high, there’s loads of glass around you giving a great view out and it’s surprisingly easy to slot through gaps in town for such a big bus.

It’s also really comfortable. The seats are supportive, you get a nice adjustable armrest and the suspension soaks up the bumps nicely. This is a relaxing car to travel in.

3. Just look at it

You just can’t ignore the fact that the ID Buzz looks plain cool. It manages to hark back to the classic VW Bus, but with a really modern twist.

The interior looks good as well. You can get funky colours for the seats and door cards, and with lighter trim it’s a really bright and airy cabin.

The Volkswagen ID Buzz starts from £60,000, which is quite a lot of money. You can save an average of just over £3,000 on one through Carwow at the time of writing, but I’ve got a way you can save even more.

I found this 2023 Volkswagen ID Buzz with just under 20,000 miles on the clock for £36,580 through Carwow, a huge saving over the cost of a new one. I would prefer a two-tone car with the white on top, but this bright orange still stands out nicely.

Three annoying things about the Volkswagen ID Buzz

As much as I like the ID Buzz, it’s not perfect. Here are three things to consider before buying one.

1. Interior quality isn’t great

For a car costing £60,000, the ID Buzz’s interior feels pretty cheap in places. Almost every surface is covered in hard, scratchy plastic, and I even found the weather stripping was coming away on the door of my test car.

2. Poor range

Volkswagen says this car will do up to 293 miles on a charge, but in the real world I’ve found this is closer to 200 miles – especially if you’re cruising on the motorway. The slab-fronted styling won’t help this – it’s like the motor is pushing a brick through the air.

3. Annoying infotainment

The Volkswagen ID Buzz has a large central touchscreen which is used to control pretty much everything in the car, and it’s a faff to navigate. The touch sliders for the temperature controls are also fiddly, as are the touch-sensitive buttons on the steering wheel.

But when a car has this much character, it’s easy to ignore these minor foibles. It’s a bit like having a partner who leaves dirty socks on the floor – they can irritate you but you love them anyway.
