You can now get the VW ID Buzz as an electric retro camper – but there’s a catch
Car changing is a big deal
The Volkswagen ID Buzz has always evoked images of classic VW campers, but it’s only ever been available as a van or full of seats. Until now.
The moment all camping enthusiasts have been waiting for has arrived. The all-electric Volkswagen ID Buzz is now available as a campervan, directly from the manufacturer.
Designed to evoke images of classic VW campers of old, the ID Buzz has, until now, only been available as a cargo van or as a practical MPV. Perfect for family life, but if you want to take it camping you’d better pack a tent.
There is a small catch – the Good-Night package, as it’s known, is currently only confirmed for mainland Europe. However, the good news is that Volkswagen has told Carwow that ‘our UK product team is working with Germany to introduce a UK-specific trim level,’ though exact timings are yet to be confirmed.

If and when it comes to the UK, the Good-Night package is likely to closely mirror that of its European counterpart. Described as being for ‘occasional campers,’ you don’t get a fully kitted out home away from home, so there’s no integrated kitchen, for example.
Instead, the Good-Night package takes a five-seat ID Buzz and fits it with a folding bed mechanism with a built-in mattress that’s big enough for two, similar to the ‘Sleep Pack’ available on certain Dacia models. You also get a table and chairs set that can be hidden away in the van when not in use.
To maintain comfort in the cabin, you get blackout blinds for the windows and vents to keep fresh air flowing. There’s also a new overnight mode, which uses the climate control to maintain a steady temperature while you sleep and dims unnecessary lights.
Available as an optional upgrade in Europe, the Good-Night package costs €2,600 (£2,240), so expect it to cost around £2,500 if it comes to the UK.
