The Life trim might be the entry point to the Passat range but you get loads of kit as standard. Match is a good-value trim level in the Passat range offering stylish 17-inch alloy wheels, the posher ‘Discover Pro’ infotainment system and a raft of useful extras. A 360-degree camera and parking assistance help with tight spaces, electrically-adjustable seats also gain a massage function in the front, and there’s three-zone climate control and LED matrix headlights, all for not much more money than the mid-rung ‘Elegance’ model.

Top-spec R-Line models get a sportier look than elsewhere in the range, as well as figure-hugging sports seats inside with a fabric upholstery. You also get Dynamic Chassis Control, which lets you change drive modes to make the car more comfortable or sporty as desired. Matrix LED headlights allow you to keep full beam on without dazzling oncoming drivers.

Elegance builds on the strong standard equipment list with 'sports comfort seats' up front, a comfy microfleece upholstery, tilting and sliding panoramic roof and LED rear lights. You also get better massage seats than in Life models.

Black Edition forms the top of the Passat range and gets the R-Line styling pack with some extra black trim. There are 19-inch alloy wheels, massaging sports seats, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, and all the driving assistance features you could want.
