The Volkswagen Tiguan is a classy SUV that combines impressive levels of refinement with a beautifully trimmed interior. The latest car is not only more sophisticated than the old model, but has grown in every dimension. Read on to find out exactly how big the new Tiguan is and how much it can carry.
We’ve pulled together comprehensive dimensions data for the Tiguan to save you breaking out the tape measure at the dealership. If you’ve decided it fits your needs perfectly, our Volkswagen Tiguan configurator can help you get a great deal on your new car.
VW Tiguan exterior dimensions
The Tiguan is a mid-sized entry in the crossover SUV class – at just under 4.5 metres long, it measures within a few millimetres of virtually all its main rivals. Volkswagen offers a handy self-parking feature that should allow it to slot neatly into most parking spaces, too.
|Width including mirrors||2,099mm|
VW Tiguan interior dimensions
Volkswagen has extended the Tiguan’s wheelbase to maximise its interior volume. As a result, it boasts a more spacious interior than both the Ford Kuga and Nissan Qashqai, even when you factor in the optional panoramic sunroof. Unfortunately, legroom for passengers in the rear middle seat is a little restricted thanks to the transmission tunnel for the four-wheel-drive system, but it’s no more cramped than its main rivals.
|Headroom front (with sunroof)||1,049mm (1,004mm)|
|Headroom rear (with sunroof)||1,012mm (967mm)|
VW Tiguan boot space
The new Tiguan boasts a highly impressive 615-litre load bay with the rear seats in place. This is greater than both the 500 litres offered by the Mazda CX-5 and the 580 litres of the Tiguan’s bigger brother, the Touareg. Fold the rear seats down, and the Tiguan is capable of carrying an impressive 1,655 litres of luggage.
|Boot space (seats up)||615 litres|
|Boot space (seats folded)||1,655 litres|
VW Tiguan fuel tank and turning circle
The Tiguan’s 58-litre fuel tank is a little on the small side in this class, but the most frugal version should still be able to squeeze around 750 miles from a single tank. It might be based on the Volkswagen Golf hatchback, but its larger SUV body means it isn’t as manoeuvrable around town – indeed its 11.5-metre turing circle is a little less wieldy than the Nissan Qashqai’s.
|Fuel tank||58 litres|
|Turning circle||11.5 metres|
VW Tiguan weight and towing limits
Volkswagen has only released weight data for 2.0-litre models – we’d expect versions with smaller engines to weigh a little less. The Tiguan fares reasonably well when compared to direct rivals, although the heaviest versions are a little on the porky side. A 2,500kg towing limit for four-wheel drive diesel versions is rather impressive, and only 200kg less than the much larger Volvo XC90.
