Mat Watson names his 5 favourite supercars of all time
February 26, 2026 by Jamie Edkins
I love a supercar, but I’ve never actually owned one. My Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the closest I’ve come, but I wouldn’t count that personally.
To me, a supercar needs to be totally wild and a bit silly. The GT3 RS is an incredible bit of engineering, but it’s a very serious car. You can’t imagine it making a dirty joke at parties.
I’m always being asked to list my favourite supercars, so here are five examples which really do it for me.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
Mat Watson’s favourite supercars:
- Porsche Carrera GT
- Koenigsegg CC850
- Pagani Huayra
- Lamborghini Countach
- Aston Martin Valkyrie
1. Porsche Carrera GT

Let’s face it, a Porsche fanboy like me was always going to put the legendary Carrera GT at the top of this list. It’s one of the most visceral driving experiences you’ll ever come across, and there will never be a supercar as raw and frightening as this again.
The 5.5-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine sends 612hp to the rear wheels only via a six-speed manual gearbox, and the Carrera GT has minimal driver aids to help you out. Get it wrong and this car will eat you alive, and that’s why I can’t help but love it. You won’t get change out of £1 million for a Carrera GT these days.
2. Koenigsegg CC850
I was blown away by the Koenigsegg CC850 when I drove it last year, mostly because of its strange gearbox. It’s an automatic most of the time, but you can switch it into manual mode and operate it just like a traditional three-pedal car.
It’s also drop-dead gorgeous, and the 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine makes a whopping 1,350hp when running on E85 race fuel. All Koenigseggs are special, but this one really got under my skin.
3. Pagani Huayra
You can’t talk about supercars without mentioning Pagani. I’d argue that it stole Lamborghini’s crown for the best pin-up cars when it launched the Zonda back in the early 2000s, and the latest Huayra is still a stunning thing to behold.
It also has one of the most special-feeling interiors of any car thanks to the exposed gear linkages and solid metal switchgear, and then there’s the engine. The screaming 6.5-litre V12 engine sends 840hp to the rear wheels only, so it’s pretty lairy to drive.
4. Lamborghini Countach

Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, every teenager’s bedroom had a Lamborghini Countach on the wall. Nobody was making cars as wild as this back then, and it still looks fantastic in 2026.
For all intents and purposes, they were crap to drive. Cramped, uncomfortable, ungainly and very noisy, but this simply didn’t matter. The Countach wasn’t designed to attack racetracks, it was made for cruising through Monaco at 9mph for onlookers to gawk at. You might occasionally give the V12 engine a little rev as well, if you were feeling generous.
5. Aston Martin Valkyrie
I know I said the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was too serious to count as a supercar, and the Valkyrie is about as serious as a hardcore track weapon gets, but just look at it. This is basically a Formula 1 car with number plates.
It has a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine, paired with an electric motor to make a combined 1,155hp. This much power in a car which only weighs 1,370kg is insane, and the fact it’s rear-wheel drive only makes it quite the experience on a track. I was left speechless after a day of blasting around Bahrain International Circuit. It’s a stunning bit of engineering.
