Car changing is a big deal
The Geely EX5 is good to drive, roomy inside and feels posh, and the bargain price tag only adds to the appeal. News Editor Jamie Edkins explains why this car is well worth considering.
You may have never heard of Geely, but you’ve probably seen its cars driving around in the UK for years. It owns brands like Lotus and Volvo, as well as the company which builds the latest London black cabs.
And now it’s started to sell cars in the UK under its own name, and the Geely EX5 is the first model to launch. It impressed us when we drove it late last year, and there are now some deals available on this car which make it even more appealing.
Why do we like the Geely EX5?
I first looked around the Geely EX5 in the summer of 2025, and I was impressed by the interior. It looks modern inside, and the material quality is very good throughout. There is also plenty of space in the back seats, even for my lanky frame, and there are loads of clever hidden storage areas around the car.

Beyond the usual glovebox, door bins and centre console storage, there’s a huge drawer underneath the rear seats for hiding your road trip snacks.

Then in late 2025, deputy reviews editor Tom Wiltshire got to drive the EX5. A lot of Chinese cars can feel a bit numb or wayward on a country road, but Geely has leveraged its ownership of Lotus to get the suspension setup just right.

It’s not what you’d call fun, but it feels flat and composed through the bends, and unlike a Jaecoo 7 the steering doesn’t get upset by bumps in the road. The EX5 does feel a bit firm over bumps around town though;a Kia EV3 is a tad more comfortable.
Geely EX5 prices, specs and deals
Value for money is one of the key areas where the Geely EX5 stands out, because you get a lot for your money.
It starts from £31,990, and all cars come with adaptive cruise control, LED lights, a 15.4-inch touchscreen and a 360-degree camera system. That’s a good amount of kit, but there’s another trim level which is even better value through Carwow at the moment.

The top-spec Max version usually starts from £36,990, which is still cheap when you see how much kit you get. Right now through Carwow you can save almost £4,200 on this car*, bringing the price down to around £32,800.
So for an extra £800 over the base model you get heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, a 16-speaker premium sound system, front parking sensors and a power tailgate. That’s an insane amount of equipment for the money.
Geely EX5 alternatives
The Geely EX5 might be a great electric SUV, but it might not be for everyone. Here are three alternatives you could also consider, each of which does something a bit better than the Geely.
1. Kia EV3 – for better range

There’s only one battery option for the Geely EX5, and it delivers up to 267 miles of range. That’s not great by modern standards, and the Kia EV3 will do up to 375 miles on a charge.
2. Skoda Elroq – a bigger boot

The EX5’s 410-litre boot is on the small side compared to alternatives, so if you want to carry lots of stuff then you might want to consider a Skoda Enyaq. It has 470 litres of boot space, and the rear seats are also just as spacious as the Geely’s.
3. MG S5 EV – a touch more comfortable

The Geely is really good to drive on a twisty road, but around town it can be a bit firm. The MG S5 EV is smoother over the bumps, and it’s even cheaper to buy than the EX5.
