Why should you consider the Jaecoo 7?

Jaecoo is a new name in the UK car market, but it comes with the backing of Chinese manufacturer Chery. And that shows in the way the 7 is built, with a remarkably solid interior considering the car’s positioning at the budget end of the market. It’s very spacious, too, with a big boot and loads of space in the back.

Behind that massive grille, you can have either a 1.6-litre petrol engine or a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid system. Especially when the hybrid’s electric motor is doing all the work. It doesn’t perform as well on the motorway or a twisty road, though, where the suspension’s lack of sophistication is exposed. And though there’s plenty of driver assistance tech, it can be overly intrusive at times.
