Jaguar needs to launch a Type 01 SUV ASAP, because it would sell out in seconds
Car changing is a big deal
Love it or hate it, the new Jaguar Type 01 has caused a huge stir. News editor Jamie Edkins reckons it looks great, but there’s another new car coming soon which will be a bigger seller.
After two years of waiting, the Jaguar Type 01 is finally here. It certainly makes a statement, but a massive, low-slung four-door coupe perhaps doesn’t have the same mass appeal these days as an SUV does.
The thing is, Jaguar is planning another new car which is based on the same collection of parts as the Type 01, and I reckon it’s likely to be an SUV. It could also be called the Type 02, and our exclusive renders give you an idea of what it could look like.

New Jaguar Type 02: what this electric SUV could look like
Jaguar managed to translate the Type 00 concept car into a production model with minimal changes, and the boxy proportions translate very well into an SUV.
The bluff nose and slatted faux grille suit a jacked-up car, but the bonnet won’t be as long as it is on the Type 01 – that would look pretty strange on a car like this. It would likely retain the saloon’s total flat body panels though, in keeping with Jaguar’s new design cues.
You can expect to see a sporty sloping roofline as well, and the lack of rear window could carry over from the Type 01 as well. Size-wise, the Type 02 is likely to be rather large. Think Rolls Royce Cullinan and Range Rover.
Moving to the rear, we’ve translated the wide hips and muscular haunches from the Type 01 onto this SUV to give it a brawny appearance.
New Jaguar Type 02: what could be powering it?
We know that the Type 01 is based on an all-new collection of parts which Jaguar spent years developing just for itself, so it would be mad not to use them across multiple cars.
This means a future SUV would use a tri-motor setup with more than 1,000hp, as well as a 118kWh battery. In the Type 01 this gives you up to 450 miles of range, but in a taller and less aerodynamic SUV this could drop closer to 400 miles.
New Jaguar Type 02: when can I buy one?
Not for a while yet. Jaguar hasn’t started deliveries of the Type 01 yet, nor has it confirmed a price for it. This means the Type 02 isn’t likely to arrive until 2027.
As for the price, we expect the Type 01 to cost around £120,000. This is a flagship model, so the Type 02 may be slightly less expensive. Don’t bet on getting much change from £100,000 though.
