Why is everyone buying the Kia Sportage?

The Kia Sportage has been on sale in the UK for more than 30 years and remains one of the country’s most popular cars. It’s currently the UK’s third best-seller, with more than 39,500 registered in 2026 so far, outselling the Nissan Qashqai, MG HS and Volvo XC40, according to the latest SMMT figures.

It’s incredibly practical

This car has so much space, it’s no wonder quite a few families opt for one. Its huge 592-litre boot offers 92 litres more space than the Jaecoo 7 and 88 litres more than the Nissan Qashqai. It’s also a nice, square shape, with a low loading lip that makes getting heavy items in and out a doddle.

There’s plenty of space in the rear, too, with loads of legroom and headroom. It’s really comfortable with two adults in the back, although squeezing three across the bench is a bit of a challenge. That said, if you have young children, there’s more than enough room for them to stretch out.

The warranty is superb

The Sportage also comes with a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty, which will certainly give you peace of mind. It’s a great choice for new-car buyers, but it’s also worth considering on the used market, as the remaining warranty transfers between owners.

Its interior is really easy to live with

Finally, the controls in the Sportage are really easy to use, which is great if you don’t want to spend ages getting to grips with a new car. While the climate settings are on a touch-sensitive panel, you still get proper temperature knobs. You can also switch this panel between climate and infotainment controls, which I think is a rather clever touch.

There are plenty of handy storage spaces scattered around the cabin, too, and the interior is refreshingly straightforward. This practicality helps make the Sportage appealing to a wide range of buyers, particularly families.

There are some decent savings on a Kia Sportage when you buy a brand-new one through Carwow.
