- New Mercedes EQXX teased
- Could inspire a range-topping EV
- Sporty, aerodynamic design
- Could have 750 miles of range
- Full reveal due in 2022
This is the new Mercedes EQXX – well, as much as Mercedes will let you see for now… The finished concept will be revealed in full in 2022.
The EQXX could preview a new range-topping electric car with more than 750 miles of range – that’s 272 miles more than you get in a top-spec Mercedes EQS.
Mercedes EQXX design
Swoopy – that’s how you’d describe the new Mercedes EQXX. It looks longer, lower and even smoother than the Mercedes EQS – and that’s the most aerodynamic production car on sale.
The EQXX’s blanked-off grille looks similar to that car’s, but rather than a large Mercedes badge in the centre this new concept places it on the bonnet above. This location means the badge faces upwards rather than forwards, which helps make the front of the car look even lower.
Features you won’t find on the EQS include contrasting trims on the bonnet that may be subtle air vents, and doors without any form of rear-view mirror or camera system.
Another teaser reveals the new EQXX concept will feature a vertical stack of brake lights rather than the full-width design you get on other Mercedes EQ models.
Mercedes EQXX range
Mercedes had previously stated that its upcoming Vision EQXX would be capable of driving from Shanghai to Beijing on a single charge.
If you’re not familiar with the trip, that means the new car needs a whopping 750 miles of range. That’s a colossal 345 miles more than you get from a Tesla Model S Long Range.
Mercedes has confirmed it will reveal the Vision EQXX in full in 2022 and that the car’s battery will eventually find its way into a Mercedes EQ production car. It’s unlikely this finished model will be able to match the EQXX’s incredible 750-mile range, however.
