Lease an MG S5 EV from £270 a month*

You can lease an MG S5 EV from £274.74 per month (initial payment: £3,646.87) on a 48-month, 5,000-miles-per-year deal through Carwow. That gets you the 49kWh battery with the 170hp electric motor and 211 miles of range, as well as the SE trim that includes 17-inch wheels, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, not to mention a 12.8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Why should you consider the MG S5 EV?

The days of MG building bargain basement cars destined for phrases of faint praise are gone. With the MG S5 EV, we can’t just say it’s good for the money; it’s a good car by any measure. The styling is modern, if a bit conservative, and the cabin is built with surprisingly upmarket materials, making this the most premium-feeling MG yet.
It’s roomy, too, and there’s a choice of two electric powertrains. Base models get a 49kWh battery and 170hp electric motor driving the rear wheels, while the Long Range versions get a 64kWh battery with a 231hp motor. Both will do more than 200 miles according to the official figures, but the Long Range model gets closer to 300 miles on a single charge.

Driving the S5 EV is more fun than you might expect, with plenty of poke from either motor option, and good visibility around town. At low speeds, the suspension can be a little firm, but the trade off is that the MG handles well in the corners. The steering is great, it doesn’t lean too much in the bends, and as the speed increases, the suspension settles down. It makes for a relaxed motorway cruiser, too.
MG S5 EV alternatives
Still not convinced? Here are some other electric options for you to consider:
- Hyundai Kona Electric: Modern design meets practical interior, but it isn’t that much fun.
- Kia EV3: It looks cool and the range is great, but some of the tech can irritate.
- Skoda Elroq: Lots of space and lots of range combine in a cool package, but the drive’s a bit firm.
