One thing to look out for when getting your next car is how much it costs to service. Here are the 10 cars owners rate as having low servicing costs.
With the cost of living rising and fuel prices still unpredictable, drivers are more focused than ever on saving money where they can. Part of those costs when having a car is how much it costs to service.
But which models are the cheapest to service? Here are the top 10, based on feedback from more than 100,000 UK motorists in the latest Driver Power survey.

1. MG HS
Taking the top spot is the MG HS. This is a practical family SUV that comes with plenty of standard kit and an excellent plug-in hybrid engine. It also has a roomy boot and spacious back seats. However, it’s not particularly enjoyable to drive and the infotainment system can be fiddly to use.
Owners praised it for its low servicing costs, with one saying they loved it for its “practicality, good specification and reasonable price”. Another respondent said that the “technology and value for money is unrivalled”.
2. Vauxhall Grandland
Claiming second place is the Vauxhall Grandland. This spacious SUV is comfortable to drive, has decent practicality and a quality interior. That said, we find it dull to drive and its petrol engine feels gutless.
Respondents in the Driver Power survey rated it highly for its servicing costs. One owner said it’s a “nice comfortable car that’s reasonably cheap to maintain and run”, while another described it as offering “reliable, trouble-free motoring”.
3. Kia Niro
Rounding out the podium for the cheapest cars to service is the Kia Niro. This sensible, practical family car has great interior quality and plenty of space, while also offering low running costs. However, it’s not the most fun car to drive, and its hybrid and PHEV versions have a smaller boot than the electric option.
Owners of the Niro loved it for its low servicing costs. One described it as “great value, with great safety features and low mpg”, while another said it’s “fast and efficient, feels good to drive, and cheap to manage”.
4. Tesla Model 3
Just missing out on the podium is the Tesla Model 3. This electric saloon is very fast, comes loaded with tech, and has a massive range up to 466 miles. But we find its controls to be a little fiddly and it can be awkward using the screen for everything.
Driver Power respondents also liked it for its low servicing costs. One owner said that it’s “easy to charge, maintain, and has low maintenance” while another stated that it’s “very reliable and cheap to run”.
5. MG4
Next up is another MG, but this time it’s in the shape of an electric hatchback. The MG4 is great value, especially given its decent range of up to 338 miles on a single charge. It also has an interior that’s easy to use and it’s fun to drive. However, the boot is small and can be noisy on the motorway.
MG4 owners who participated in the Driver Power survey really liked it for its low servicing costs. One owner said it’s “cheap to run”, while another praised it for being “quick and cheap”.
6. Vauxhall Frontera
Also making the top 10 for cheap servicing costs is the Vauxhall Frontera. This SUV has a cavernous interior, is comfortable to drive, and has a smooth, economical petrol engine. We do, however, think it lacks rear seat storage and it has a cheap-feeling cabin.
Better still, Frontera owners liked it for its low servicing cost, with one stating its “styling, comfort, and cost to run” as some pros, while another said it’s “simple, looks good, and is cheap to run and buy”.
7. Renault Clio
The Renault Clio is also another model that owners rated high for its cheap servicing costs. This small hatchback has a plush-felling cabin and a very practical, massive boot up to 391 litres for a car of its class. However, we do find it’s not as comfy as alternatives and it has tight rear seats.
Respondents said the Clio is a “good size and economical to run,” while another liked it for being “cheap to run and insure” as well as having cheap servicing costs.
8. Hyundai Kona
Next up, we have the Hyundai Kona. This head-turning and spacious family SUV is really practical on top of being an incredibly quiet motorway cruiser. It’s just a shame that it has infuriating assistance alerts and alternatives are comfier over bumps.
Owners responding in the Driver Power survey praised it for its cheap servicing costs. They even liked it for its “quality, comfort, driving position, performance” while another admired its “appearance, performance, good warranty, high levels of equipment”.
9. Peugeot 3008
This SUV with a posh interior has also made it into the top 10. The Peugeot 3008 has a striking design inside and out and comes with incredibly efficient hybrid engines. However, we find its infotainment to be a bit fiddly and the rear seats are cramped.
That said, respondents in the Driver Power survey liked it for its low servicing costs. One owner even said: “It’s a solid, reliable car. On the whole, it’s enjoyable to drive, and the hybrid version is quite economical.”
10. Peugeot 2008
From one Peugeot to another, the smaller 2008 rounds out the top 10 for cars which are cheapest to service. This SUV has a lovely interior as well as being fun and cheap to run. But adults might find it quite cramped in the back and its infotainment system can be a pain to navigate.
It was a big hit for owners in terms of its low servicing costs. One respondent also said it “looks good, drives well, has great fuel consumption and is very comfortable” while another praised it for its “comfort, manoeuvrability, reliability”.
