Car changing is a big deal
Looking for an electric car that qualifies for the full £3,750 electric car grant? Here are five models worth considering, plus the great deals you can get on each.
With diesel prices hitting £2 per litre and petrol prices climbing, now could be a good time to consider switching to an electric car. And with the government’s electric car grant offering up to £3,750 off an eligible new EV, making the switch could be even more tempting.
There are currently 19 cars eligible for the full grant, but which ones are most worthy of your attention? I’ve picked out five models that deserve a closer look.

1. Citroen e-C5 Aircross

First up, we have the Citroen e-C5 Aircross. This handsome, comfortable electric SUV offers up to 421 miles of range, plenty of headroom, highly adjustable seats and lots of legroom for rear passengers. That said, I think it’s rather dull to drive, and its infotainment system is unintuitive.
The full EV grant is only available on the Long Range version of this car, but you could save even more when buying through Carwow, regardless of which version you choose. At the time of writing, you can get £9,104 off the Plus version, which comes with a 73kWh battery.
This version comes with a range of up to 323 miles, and features such as:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- 13.0-inch touchscreen
- Wireless smartphone charger
- Interior ambient lighting
- Adaptive cruise control
- Front and rear parking sensors
- 180-degree rear camera
2. Ford Puma Gen-E

The Ford Puma Gen-E has a practical interior and a huge boot, offering up to 556 litres of storage space. It’s also great fun to drive and impressively efficient around town. However, its efficiency drops off sharply on the motorway, and its range is a modest 250 miles.
Including the EV grant, you can currently save up to £7,486 on a top-spec Blue Cruise Edition through Carwow, at the time of writing. This version offers up to 250 miles of range on a single charge and comes with the following features:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- Wireless smartphone charger
- 12.0-inch touchscreen display
- B&O audio system with 10 speakers
- Ford ‘Megabox’ extended boot space
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Hands-off active cruise control
3. Kia EV4

The Kia EV4 is an electric hatchback that’s very comfortable, offers plenty of rear legroom and has more range than its alternatives, with up to 388 miles on a single charge. However, cabin storage isn’t fantastic, and its driving position may not suit everyone.
At the time of writing, you can save up to £7,319 on the Motion version of the EV4 through Carwow. This version comes with 388 miles of range on a single charge, and has the following features:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- Wireless phone charger
- Harmon Kardon sound system with eight speakers
- Heated front and rear seats
- 360-degree around-view monitor
- Remote Smart Park Assist
4. Nissan Leaf

This charming small electric SUV is also eligible for the full EV grant. The Nissan Leaf not only has a handsome interior, it’s comfortable to drive and has a great electric range up to 386 miles too. However, you’ll find alternatives that have bigger boots and its rear seats are tight.
Still interested? You can get £7,723 off the Engage+ version, at the time of writing. This version comes with a range of up to 374 miles on a single charge, and features such as:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- Wireless phone charger
- 14.3-inch touchscreen display
- Heated front seats and steering wheel
- Intelligent cruise control
- 360-degree camera
5. Renault 5 E-Tech

Last up, we have the Renault 5. This small electric car has fantastic styling inside and out and it comes with a heat pump as standard. It’s great to drive too. However, it is a bit cramped inside and it’s jiggly over bad roads. Keep in mind too that its range is only up to 250 miles, meaning it’s better if you mainly take shorter journeys.
You can only get the full £3,750 discount on versions with the 52kWh battery, but you can get one through Carwow with more off. For instance, you can get £4,897 off the top-spec Roland Garros + version, at the time of writing. This version comes with up to 257 miles of range, and features like:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- Wireless phone charger
- 10.1-inch touchscreen display
- Heated front and rear seats
- Heated steering wheel
- Harman Kardon sound system
- Rear view camera
- Front, rear and side parking sensors
- Heat pump
