Car changing is a big deal

The free, easy way to change your car online

Mat Watson thinks the Suzuki Swift is an affordable, economical and well-equipped small car. The best part is that you can grab a used example for more than half the price of a new one.

I think the Suzuki Swift is worth considering if you’re looking for a small car that’s got decent interior space, generous standard equipment, and great fuel economy.

I’ve found a great deal that’s worth a look, so let me tell you what I like about this car and three things that irk me before you take the plunge.

Did you know you can buy a used car right here on Carwow? We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Three things I like about the Suzuki Swift

1. Excellent fuel economy

I really like how cheap the Swift is to run. Its mild hybrid engine helps keep fuel consumption low without sacrificing too much performance. Over a few weeks of mixed driving, I achieved at least 60mpg, which is particularly impressive for a car in this class.

2. Fun to drive

The Swift feels light and nimble behind the wheel. Its responsive steering and compact size make it easy to manoeuvre and park, while still being fun on twisty roads.

3. Good standard equipment

I like how much equipment Suzuki includes as standard, particularly for such an affordable car. Features such as adaptive cruise control and a reverse parking camera make everyday driving much more convenient.

Suzuki Swift deals

The Suzuki Swift usually starts from £19,999, but I’ve found a good deal on a second-hand one from 2023 that’s got 35,557 miles on the clock, all for £9,920.

It has an 83hp 1.2-litre petrol engine, and features such as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, a rear parking camera and air conditioning.

Three annoying things about the Suzuki Swift

1. Cheap interior materials

I’m disappointed by the quality of some of the interior materials. There are too many hard, scratchy plastics – even by small, affordable car standards – which make the cabin feel cheaper than some of its alternatives.

2. It’s noisy and uncomfortable

The Swift is quite noisy at higher speeds, with noticeable road and wind noise making motorway journeys less relaxing. The firm suspension can also make driving over rough roads uncomfortable.

3. There’s frustrating technology

The infotainment system isn’t particularly impressive – it feels dated and can be slow to respond. I also find the speed-limit warning overly sensitive, with its repeated beeping becoming irritating during everyday driving.
