This is the all-new Bentley Continental GT, and it spells the end of the glorious W12 engine.

  • New Bentley Continental GT teased
  • Plug-in hybrid V8 replaces the W12
  • 782hp and 1,000Nm of torque
  • Similar design to the outgoing car
  • Full reveal coming in June

The new Bentley Continental GT is coming in June, and it’s going to use a plug-in hybrid V8 in place of the old car’s W12 engine.

Despite the downsizing, this alternative to the Aston Martin DB12 is even more powerful than the outgoing Continental GT Speed, and it can even do up to 50 miles on electric power alone. A full reveal is coming in June.

New Bentley Continental GT hybrid engine

Let’s take a moment to mourn the loss of Bentley’s glorious W12 engine, because the new Continental GT is packing a V8 under the bonnet. As well as the loss of four cylinders, this new luxury coupe is fitted with a plug-in hybrid system.

Before you all start brandishing pitchforks outside of the Crewe factory, this new PHEV Continental is actually more powerful than the 12-cylinder GT Speed. It touts a combined 782hp and 1,000Nm of torque from the engine and electric motor, over 120hp and 100Nm more than the Speed.

Without wishing to get all sensible on you, this plug-in hybrid can also do up to 50 miles on electric power alone. Perfect for wafting around town in silence, or saving your fuel for V8 tunnel runs.

Specific mechanical details will be revealed in June when the car is officially unveiled, but it wouldn’t be a shock to find the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 from cars such as the Lamborghini Urus and Audi RS Q8 under the bonnet.

New Bentley Continental GT hybrid design

These teasers show the new Bentley Continental GT PHEV wearing a pretty heavy disguise, and that’s because the design is under wraps until June. That said, you can still make out some of the details.

New Bentley Continental GT PHEV front

The main thing to note is that the styling appears to remain very true to the previous car’s – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? The headlights do seem to have adopted a similar shape to the limited-run Bentley Bacalar, however the wide and imposing grille is almost the same as before.

New Bentley Continental GT PHEV rear

It’s a similar story at the back, where this new car appears to have retained the previous model’s thin oval tail lights. The lower bumper is new though, with some massive exhaust surrounds making it look more sporty.

New Bentley Continental GT hybrid price and release date

A full reveal of the new Bentley Continental GT is coming this June, when you’ll be able to see the full design and find out more about the performance specs. Expect to see order books open shortly after, with a likely starting price of well over £200,000.
