The most exciting Toyota models coming soon: Urban Cruiser, RAV4 and the return of the MR2

Car changing is a big deal
Toyota is hard at work on a few new models over the next year or so, and not all of them are electric. Read on for all of the most exciting new Toyotas coming soon.
Many car manufacturers are changing to a fully electric model line-up over the next few years. Audi has committed to an all-electric lineup by 2033, and Jaguar has already phased out all of its petrol-powered cars.
However, Toyota is taking a different approach with what it calls its “multi-path strategy”, which essentially means it aims to provide customers with a choice of petrol, hybrid and electric cars for as long as regulations allow.
So there are some new petrol-powered cars to look forward to from Toyota over the next 12 months, as well as a handful of electric models. Here’s a full rundown of what to expect.
New Toyota Urban Cruiser: on sale later this year

Toyota is launching its second electric car, and it’s been developed with help from Suzuki. The new Urban Cruiser is basically exactly the same as the new Suzuki e-Vitara, meaning it’ll be an alternative to cars like the Kia EV3 and Ford Puma Gen-E.
It uses a 61kWh battery which is expected to deliver around 250 miles of range. We’ve had a look around the new Urban Cruiser. It’s got a reasonably roomy cabin, but the boot is tiny compared to the competition. The interior isn’t all that exciting either, but this will be easy to look past as long as it’s priced right. It’s likely to cost less than £30,000.
New Toyota RAV4: coming in early 2026

The Toyota RAV4 is one of the most popular SUVs in the world, so there’s a lot weighing on the new one. It was revealed in May, and has been totally redesigned from top to bottom with new styling and a fresh interior.
We had a poke around the new RAV4 at the reveal event and it’s certainly a practical SUV. It also still has a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid engine, although it can now do 62 miles on a charge instead of the 46 miles you get from the current car.
New Toyota bZ4X Touring: coming spring 2026

This is the new Toyota bZ4X Touring, a bigger and more practical version of the brand’s electric SUV. It looks a bit like a jacked-up estate car, and it’s been given some more rugged styling details compared to the standard car – such as the extra black cladding.
The 600-litre boot is almost 150 litres bigger than the standard bZ4X, and it’s also 15 litres bigger than the Skoda Enyaq’s load area. You get up to 348 miles of range, 30 miles more than the normal car, and UK sales will start in early 2026.
Is the MR2 returning? FT-Se concept previews new sports car

This is the Toyota FT-Se concept, and when it was revealed back in 2023 it looked like the MR2 was set to return as an electric sports car. In the years since though, there have been murmurs of a mid-mounted four-cylinder engine.
The Toyota GR Yaris M Concept was the first hint that a future Toyota sports car would use internal combustion, because it had an engine in the boot powering the rear wheels. It wouldn’t be a massive leap to assume this would end up in the new MR2, but it’s all just rumours and hearsay for now. More concrete details are expected over the next few years.
