This is the coolest way to spend £95,000: Twisted T-Bug first impressions

Car changing is a big deal
If you’ve got £95,000 burning a hole in your pocket you could buy a posh electric SUV – but this custom Volkswagen Beetle is much, much cooler.
This is the Twisted T-Bug, and it’s just plain cool. Twisted is a company based in Yorkshire which builds crazy Land Rover Defenders and Suzuki Jimnys, and now it’s branched out to Volkswagen Beetles.
The T-Bug is a recreation of something called a Baja Bug – a classic Volkswagen Beetle which has been modified for off-road use in the desert. It’ll certainly turn heads, and you can add one to your garage for £95,000.
New Twisted T-Bug: what is this thing?
A lot of work goes into making the Twisted T-Bug. Every one starts out in life as a humble classic Volkswagen Beetle, before being completely torn down.

The chassis and body get separated and completely restored to a better-than-new condition, with improved sound deadening and perfectly-aligned panel gaps helping make it feel more solid, and then the modifications start.
Bodywork
This certainly isn’t your average Beetle to look at. The widened front and rear wings are custom-made from fibreglass, the headlights have been relocated to the centre and upgraded to bright LED units and you get rock rails down the side.

Being a totally bespoke car, you can choose any colour combination you want to suit your tastes.
Suspension

The T-Bug is fitted with long-travel suspension which can soak up the bumps off road, and you get knobbly BF Goodrich tyres with cool white lettering. The brakes are also uprated for added stopping power.
Interior

The cabin has been completely retrimmed, and just like the outside you can have it done however you want. The carpets and headlining have been completely renewed, and the seats and door cards are covered in lovely leather. You also get a Twisted plaque in the centre in case you forget how special your car is.
Engine

The T-Bug is still powered by a Volkswagen air-cooled engine, but it’s been extensively restored and modified. This particular motor started out as a 1.2-litre with around 30hp, but it’s been bored out to 1.8-litres and now has 80hp. That doesn’t sound like a huge amount by modern standards, but you have to consider that this is a light car, and it’s not one you’re likely to take drag racing.
Twisted T-Bug: how much is it?
Every Twisted T-Bug is custom-built to order, and no car will be the same. Prices will vary slightly between each one, but this one costs around £95,000 and you can expect most of them to float around this figure.

That price tag includes sourcing the donor car and the full build from start to finish – a process which takes around four months to complete.
Twisted itself admits that the T-Bug is unashamedly a toy – it’s not a car you’re likely to use for your daily commute to work. But think of it this way, it’s way more exclusive than a Porsche 911 Dakar, and those fetch over £220,000 these days. The T-Bug is likely to turn more heads as well.
