Stellantis extends warranties for potential diesel engine failures
July 07, 2025 by Siobhan Doyle

Car changing is a big deal
Stellantis is offering a special 10-year warranty for 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engines due to potential camshaft chain issues – giving drivers added peace of mind and protection.
Stellantis has rolled out a new extended warranty for certain 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engines built between October 2017 and January 2023. This comes after the carmaker recalled some diesel cars built during 2017-2023 due to potential camshaft chain issues – a vital part of how your engine runs.
It said some 930,00 vehicles in France were affected, but did not give an overall figure for all of Europe or the UK. An additional 117,000 cars were affected in Belgium, the company added.
If your car’s been affected, you could get up to 10 years or around 150,000 miles of coverage (whichever comes first) for issues related to the camshaft chain.
This applies to both personal and commercial vehicles, and covers models from big Stellantis brands such as Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall, Fiat, and DS Automobiles. It’s all about giving customers more peace of mind and dealing with engine problems that can show up over time.

How do I find out if my car (or van) is affected?
Stellantis has a handy VIN lookup tool on their support site and sister sites such as Citroen where you can check if your car has any recalls. You’ll find your VIN on your vehicle registration papers or on the car itself, which is usually on the dashboard near the windshield or inside the driver’s door.
Starting in mid-July, customers who’ve previously experienced camshaft chain issues can request reimbursement for related expenses through a dedicated compensation platform on stellantis-support.com.
Already paid for repairs? You might get a refund
If you’ve already had repairs done between 1 January 2023 and 30 June 2025, you might be eligible for a refund, as long as the work fits certain criteria: such as following the recommended service schedule and having receipts or records handy.
To make things easy, Stellantis has launched an online portal at stellantis-support.com, where you can:
- Check if your car is included in the campaign
- Submit details of past repairs
- Track your claim
What is a camshaft chain?
The camshaft is a key part of your engine that helps it breathe properly. It controls when the engine’s valves open and close, letting air in and pushing exhaust out. This needs to happen at just the right time for everything to run smoothly. The camshaft is linked to another part called the crankshaft by a chain (or sometimes a belt in other engines), and they work together to keep the engine running in sync.

For some 1.5 BlueHDi engines, Stellantis has found that the timing chain – which keeps the engine running in sync – might wear out sooner than expected. In some cases, it can make odd noises or mess with the engine’s timing. If it’s not caught early, it could lead to serious engine trouble. That’s why Stellantis has launched this new support programme.
A step toward better customer service
This move is part of Stellantis’s broader plan to boost trust and improve customer support. By offering long-term coverage and making the whole process easy to manage online, the brand is aiming to make life simpler for car owners.
Even if you’ve bought your car second-hand through Spoticar (Stellantis’s official used car network), you’re in luck. Cars with the Check+ certification are also included, as long as they meet the technical requirements.
