This is the new Omoda 4 – a small SUV which will be available with petrol engines and as an electric car when it goes on sale in 2026. Here’s news editor Jamie Edkins to tell you all about this new Chinese car.

  • New Omoda 4 revealed
  • Small SUV to rival the Renault Captur and Volvo EX30
  • Available with petrol, hybrid and electric power options
  • EV could have around 250 miles of range
  • Sub-£25,000 price tag expected
  • On sale in 2026

Chinese cars are becoming a much more common sight on UK roads, and few brands are growing quite as quickly as Omoda. It sold over 4,300 cars in the UK in September, which is almost 900 more than Dacia and nearly as many as Honda.

It currently sells three cars here, the 5, E5 and the 9. And in 2026, a new model will grace our forecourts called the Omoda 4. It’s a small SUV which will be available with petrol and electric power options, making it an alternative to cars like the Renault Captur and Skoda Kamiq, as well as the Volvo EX30 and Kia EV3.

New Omoda 4 design and interior: it’s something new

Most car manufacturers have something called a “design language”, which is a posh name for shared styling cues that tie all of its cars together. Volvo has the “Thor’s hammer” headlights, and BMW has the kidney grilles. Omoda’s cars don’t seem to share styling features though – they all look totally different.

The new Omoda 4 looks nothing like the 5 or the 9, it’s much more angular than either of those cars. Almost as though the designer only had a ruler at their disposal. The low nose and swept-back headlights give it a sporty vibe, as does the sharp crease down the side.

You also get a funky-looking light bar at the rear with a zig-zag LED pattern, just like the upcoming Omoda 7. The massive wing fitted to this car also hints at a sporty version called the Ultra, which is likely to get a more aggressive-looking bodykit and possibly a few mechanical upgrades.

Moving inside, the cabin is pretty much as we’d expect from a new Chinese SUV. It’s quite minimalist with very few buttons and a large portrait touchscreen. The Omoda 4 has also taken a feature from Lamborghini – namely the red flip-up cover over the start button.

New Omoda 4 engines and motors

The new Omoda 4 will be available with a choice of petrol engines or electric powertrains, although exact technical details won’t be announced until closer to the launch in 2026.

That said, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that it’ll share some parts with the Jaecoo 5 – the two brands are both owned by the same company after all.

The petrol-powered Jaecoo 5 uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 140hp, while the electric E5 has a 207hp motor powering the front wheels. It also has up to 248 miles of range from a 61kWh battery pack, so the Omoda 4 may share similar stats.

A hybrid model is also on the cards, which could use the 204hp plug-in system from the larger Jaecoo 7. If this is the case, it may be able to do close to 60 miles on electric power alone.

New Omoda 4: how much will it cost?

It’s a bit early to say for now, but a sub-£25,000 price tag for the petrol version is highly likely. The similarly-sized Jaecoo 5 starts from £24,500, so the Omoda 4 is likely to float somewhere around this figure.

We’d also expect the electric version to start from under £30,000, but full prices and specs for the UK market will be confirmed in 2026.
