Renault SUV models: current range

There is a lot of choice in Renault’s SUV range. There’s the Captur, Arkana, Austral and the all-new, all-electric Scenic.

Renault Captur

Renault describes the Captur as an urban SUV. It’s a lot less boxy-looking and a lot more stylish than some other small SUVs, but still offers a decent amount of interior and boot space (from 379 to 536 litres depending on model). In fact, even taller passengers won’t have a problem with knee or headroom in the rear seat.

The dashboard has an infotainment system with built-in Google and a 10.4 inch vertical touchscreen, plus wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and wireless phone charging.

A new esprit Alpine trim level is now available in addition to Evolution and Techno. All upholstery is made from recycled fabrics, with no leather or chrome for enhanced sustainability credentials.

There’s a choice of two engines: a three-cylinder, 1.0-litre TCE turbo petrol with 90 hp and a six-speed manual gearbox; or the E-Tech full hybrid (self-charging) with a four-cylinder, 1.6-litre  petrol and 1.2kWh battery motor with automatic transmission.

Renault Arkana

The Renault Arkana is a family SUV with a sporty profile and Renault’s first purpose-built hybrid model. It is a self-charging hybrid (which means it charges itself while driving rather than having to be plugged-in) with automatic transmission as standard and 145 hp from its combination of a 1.6-litre petrol engine, two electric motors with a 1.2 kWh battery. It can deliver an official range of up to 620 miles with emissions of 107 g/km and up to 60.1 mpg.

Like the new Captur, the Arkana offers a choice of three trim levels: Evolution, Techno and a range-topping Techno Esprit Alpine. The Evolution has a seven inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the other two models have a larger 10.0-inch display, all with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Inside its rear tailgate there’s 480 litres of boot space, plus the rear seats fold down if more storage space is required.

Renault Austral

The Renault Austral is a mid-sized SUV that replaced the Kadjar. It is available in Techno, Techno Esprit Alpine and Iconic Esprit Alpine trim levels, all offered with the sole choice of Renault’s E-Tech full hybrid engine.

As a full hybrid, the Austral charges its battery during braking and acceleration (so no need to plug-in) and has a maximum power of 200 hp, emissions of 105 g/km and up to 60.1mpg to offer a total range of up to 683 miles.

It combines a three-cylinder, 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 400V, 1.7kWh battery. Smooth and quiet electric power will power the Austral for short distances around town and help to improve fuel economy by up to 40%,

The modern dashboard looks really smart with a digital instrument panel and 12-inch multimedia system, 12.3-inch driver information display and a 9.3-inch head-up display as standards.

Renault Scenic E-Tech

The all-new Renault Scenic E-Tech is 100% electric and has been voted The Car of the Year 2024 at the Geneva Motorshow.

It has a choice of two powertrains: a 170 hp comfort range with a 60 kWh battery, or a 220 hp long range with an 87 kWh battery, delivering official ranges of 260 and 379 miles, respectively.

There are three trim levels - Techno, Esprit Alpine and Iconic - all with a vertical 12-inch ‘openR’ multimedia system with 50 apps available and Google built-in. This means the sat nav can optimise route calculations and suggests a route optimised for the level of charge remaining.

The interior offers plenty of space for families, including the rear seat passengers, plus there's a good-sized boot with a capacity of 545 litres. The Esprit Alpine and Iconic models have a cool panoramic glass roof that can turn opaque at the touch of a button.
