Car changing is a big deal
Skoda is temporarily renaming the Peak District the “Peaq District” for one week to celebrate the launch of its new all-electric SUV, with visitors able to claim free cycle hire across the national park
Heading to the Peak District this summer? Skoda has renamed the national park the “Peaq District” to celebrate the launch of its new all-electric SUV.
From 27 July to 2 August, visitors can claim free cycle hire at Parsley Hay Cycle Centre by booking with the code SkodaPeaqDistrict.

The initiative aims to encourage more people to explore the UK’s national parks after research commissioned by Skoda found that almost three in 10 people (29%) have never visited one.
The campaign marks the launch of the new all-electric Skoda Peaq – the brand’s seven-seat electric SUV.
It offers a driving range of up to 390 miles and up to 890 litres of luggage space with the rear seats folded, making it suitable for family adventures and staycations.
News editor Jamie Edkins recently had a poke around the car during its launch in Geneva. He reckons it’s a handsome-looking SUV, with an interior that feels a step up from the Skoda Kodiaq.
The third row is more spacious than you might expect, too. At 6’3”, Jamie had enough knee room to sit comfortably, although there’s still a bit more space in the back of the Kia EV9. The Peaq also gets the biggest panoramic glass roof ever fitted to a Skoda, making the cabin feel bright and airy.

More than a third (37%) of respondents in the survey believed visitors have to pay to enter national parks. And almost one in five (18%) thought the UK has more than 20 national parks, when there are actually 15, the survey found.
Recognition of the parks also remains relatively low. The Lake District was the most recognised national park, named by 47% of respondents, followed by the Peak District at 42%.
Despite this, those who do visit tend to return regularly. More than half (53%) said they had visited a national park within the last year, while one in 10 have explored more than half of the UK’s national parks.

Eric Boutin, director of Skoda UK, said: “The new all-electric Skoda Peaq is the ultimate SUV for families with an everyday sense of adventure, and it fits perfectly with the ethos of the Peak District National Park.
“We’re passionate about encouraging more people to get outdoors and experience these incredible protected spaces. Cycling has always been part of Skoda’s DNA – after all, the brand started life on two wheels – and that heritage still shapes how we think about mobility today.”
Phil Mulligan, chief executive of the Peak District National Park, added: “As the stewards of this incredible part of the UK, we want to make it as accessible as possible to as many people as possible.
“Whether that’s walking some of our beautiful pathways or cycling the many bike trails we have, we want more of the visitors to the Peaq District to understand and appreciate its natural beauty.”
The “Peaq District” takeover runs from 27 July to 2 August, with temporary signage appearing across the national park. Visitors can claim free cycle hire at Parsley Hay Cycle Centre throughout the week by using the code SkodaPeaqDistrict when booking.
