This is the new Volkswagen ID3 Neo. Compared to the outgoing ID3 it gets revised styling, an all-new interior with some much-needed buttons and a GTI version has also been confirmed.

Volkswagen has just revealed the new ID3 Neo, and it’s more than a mid-life update for the brand’s electric hatchback. It may look pretty similar on the outside, but inside you’ll find a much-improved cabin layout, and there are some new motor options as well.

Prices for the UK will be revealed soon, but we’re expecting it to cost a smidge more than the outgoing ID3. A figure of around £31,000 is therefore likely.

An ID3 Neo GTI has also been confirmed, which will replace the current GTX model when it’s revealed in September. It’ll be the second all-electric GTI model after the ID Polo GTI is unveiled in May, and we’ve had a go at imagining what it could look like.

New Volkswagen ID3 Neo GTI confirmed

Volkswagen is dropping the ID3 GTX and replacing it with a GTI, and we’ve used some AI software to give you an idea of what it could look like.

You can expect a deep chin spoiler and big air vents up front, as well as some flashy alloy wheels and aggressive-looking side skirts. At the rear, a roof spoiler is par for the course, and a diffuser would help further differentiate this from the standard ID3 Neo.

There are no details around performance just yet, but you can expect the ID3 Neo GTI to use a single electric motor, powering the rear wheels. The current ID3 GTX has 326hp, and we’d expect the new GTI to have about the same.

A full reveal is coming this September, with prices likely to start at around £47,000.

New Volkswagen ID3 Neo interior and tech: the biggest improvements

The big news with the new Volkswagen ID3 Neo is inside, because VW has listened to its customers.

The touch-sensitive controls which so many people hated are gone, and in their place are physical buttons. You have a row of toggle switches for your climate control, replacing the annoying touch sliders you used to get, and the steering wheel has proper buttons on it instead of a touchpad.

You also get a much larger digital driver’s display than before, measuring 10.3 inches across as opposed to 5.3 inches, although the 12.9-inch infotainment screen is the same size as the older model.

The centre console is taller and wider than before, and Volkswagen says it’s improved the material quality as well. We’ll have to wait until we get our hands on the car to see if that’s true, though.

Volkswagen ID3 Neo exterior design: subtle changes make a big difference

The overall shape of the new ID3 Neo is similar to the old car, but a handful of subtle tweaks make it look much smarter.

The front lights are slimmer than the original ID3, and they’re now connected by a sleek light bar. The front and rear bumpers have also been tweaked, and there are some new alloy wheel options to choose from as well.

New Volkswagen ID3 Neo motors and batteries

In addition to the changes you can see, Volkswagen has also made some changes under the skin. The ID3 Neo gets more efficient motor and battery options, and the result is up to 391 miles of range. That’s an improvement of 20 miles.

There are three motor options to choose from at launch: 170hp, 190hp and 231hp. You can also choose between a 50, 58 or 97kWh battery pack.
