Car changing is a big deal
News editor Jamie Edkins loves the upcoming BMW iX3, but if you want a posh BMW electric SUV on your driveway right now, you should check out a used iX. Here’s why.
When I drove the BMW iX3 late last year, I was blown away by just how good it was. It’s fantastic to drive, offers impressive range and the technology on board is all state-of-the-art. You can order yours now for just under £60,000, and if you’re after a posh electric SUV for that sort of money I would urge you to just go right ahead and buy it.

However, first deliveries in the UK aren’t expected until March. I think the iX3 is well worth the wait, but what if you can’t hang on that long? Well I have the solution for you. Why not check out a used BMW iX?
Why should you consider a used BMW iX?
The iX remains BMW’s flagship electric SUV, and even though it’s been around a few years it’s still a jolly good one.

I’m going to start inside, because the interior is a real highlight of this car. The dashboard design is stunning, and all the materials used feel exquisite. Everything is covered in lovely leather, and you can even get crystal details on some of the switchgear.
The iX is also packed with clever technology. It may not be packing the iX3’s panoramic head-up display at the base of the windscreen, but the twin curved screens still look mightily impressive and are a doddle to use. The surround-view camera is also among the best in the business, with a super-crisp image helping you navigate tight car parks with ease.

Rear passengers will have no complaints about legroom, because there’s acres of it. The driving position is also spot-on, and this brings me onto how this car feels out on the road.
It’s a supremely comfortable cruiser, and although it does feel like a heavy car through the bends it still handles really well. It’s a fantastic all-rounder, if your pockets are deep enough.
BMW iX used prices
The BMW iX starts from just over £75,400 for the basic Sport model, however I would go for the M Sport for its styling upgrades. This brings the price up to more than £78,400, almost £20,000 more than an iX3.

But don’t fear, because through Carwow there are some great-value used iXs on offer. I’ve found a 2025 M Sport model with just 4,000 miles on the clock for £65,400, the same as a basic iX3 with a few options ticked.

This is the 408hp xDrive 45 model with up to 367 miles of range, so it’ll be more than quick enough and it should go far enough on a charge to keep the range anxiety at bay.
While I do think the new iX3 is a better car in some respects – it feels much more agile through the corners and gets up to 500 miles of range – the iX is still one of the best posh EVs you can buy right now.
Used BMW iX alternatives
Not sold on a BMW iX? Well here are three alternatives you could consider for similar money, and each does something a bit better than the BMW.
Polestar 3 – The stylish choice

The BMW iX could be considered a bit polarising in terms of design, but the Polestar 3 is a fantastic-looking electric SUV with a lovely interior. The infotainment system is a bit of a faff to use though.
Tesla Model X – for the show-offs

Very few electric SUVs turn heads like the Tesla Model X, especially when you open up the falcon wing rear doors. It’s also hugely spacious inside, but interior quality is miles behind the BMW.
Porsche Macan EV – for the drivers

The Porsche Macan EV is a great choice if you’re after something which is fun to drive, but it’s not quite as spacious as the iX inside.
