It’s a popular small hatchback which offers impressive bang for your buck, and it’s even better value when you buy it used.

When Dacia first launched in the UK back in 2012 it properly shook up the market with its cheap and cheerful hatchbacks and SUVs. The Sandero has been a mainstay of the range since the start, and the latest version is a really tempting proposition.

Through Carwow you can get a mid-spec car for less than £15,000, and it comes with all the kit you realistically need. It has a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and LED headlights, all for £4,000 less than a base-spec Renault Clio.

The thing is though, it’s even more of a bargain if you spend some time looking at the secondhand market. I found a 2021 Dacia Sandero with just under 36,000 miles on the clock for £8,551 – almost £6,500 less than the equivalent new car.

It’s a Comfort model, which means it comes with all the same kit as the new mid-spec Sandero. You also get an economical 1.0-litre engine which will return close to 50mpg, although it can feel a bit sluggish when you’ve got a car full of people.

The interior does feel built down to a price in places, however that’s part of the Sandero’s honest charm. If you’re after something which feels more posh then you’ll want to check out the Volkswagen Polo.

You get plenty of interior space though, with loads of rear legroom and a decent-sized boot, and it’s comfortable to drive. In terms of value for money, the Dacia Sandero is really hard to beat.

Used Dacia Sandero alternatives

Not convinced by the Dacia Sandero? Here are three other used cars you could consider for less than £9,000…

Renault Zoe: A well-equipped electric car with decent range, but the rear seats are pretty cramped.

Ford Fiesta: Great fun to drive and an economical engine, but the sporty trim levels aren’t that comfortable.

2017 Ford Fiesta

Volkswagen Polo: Impressively posh and spacious, but for this money you’ll be looking at an older model with the sluggish 1.0-litre engine.
