Car changing is a big deal

The free, easy way to change your car online

The Geely EX5 is an electric SUV with a premium-feeling interior, loads of space in the back and plenty of equipment for your money. Here’s what Mat Watson thinks of it and why it deserves your attention.

I really like the look of the Geely EX5, a Chinese electric SUV that makes a great first impression. It’s got a seriously plush interior, loads of room for passengers in the back and, in top-spec form, comes packed with equipment without costing a fortune.

I’ve also found a great lease deal on this electric SUV that could be right up your street. But before you make that all-important decision, let me run you through what I like about the car – and three things I’m not so keen on.

Did you know you can buy a used car right here on Carwow? We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Three things I like about the Geely EX5

1. It has a surprisingly luxurious interior

I’m impressed by how premium the EX5 feels inside. The materials are high quality, the cabin is well put together and its 15.4-inch infotainment screen gives it a modern feel. It’s the sort of interior I’d expect from a considerably more expensive car.

2. There’s loads of room for passengers

It’s great how much space Geely has prioritised for rear seat passengers. There’s plenty of legroom, a flat floor and reclining seatbacks, making it a particularly appealing family car. There’s also some clever storage, including a useful drawer underneath the rear seats.

3. You get plenty of equipment for the money

The EX5 is excellent value for money. Even the entry-level model comes with features such as adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, a heated steering wheel and a 360-degree camera. The higher-spec versions add luxuries such as ventilated and massaging seats, a panoramic sunroof and a head-up display.

Geely EX5 deals

I’ve found a great lease deal on the Geely EX5 on Carwow that’s well worth considering. The lease runs for four years, with an annual mileage allowance of 5,000 miles, and you can choose to pay up to 12 months’ worth of payments upfront.

Here’s the breakdown costs of this particular lease deal at a glance:

Monthly payments £245.45
Initial payment £3,330.37
Total cost £14,866.43

In this entry-level SE version, you get up to 267 miles of range on a single charge, a five star safety rating, and features such as heated front seats and steering wheel, 360-degree parking camera, adaptive and intelligent cruise control, a wireless phone charger, and a six speaker audio system.

Three annoying things about the Geely EX5

1. The range isn’t that great

If you’re looking for an electric car yet you regularly do long journeys, then this car may not be for you as there’s a lack of a genuinely long-range option. Even the larger-battery version manages a claimed maximum of just 280 miles, which could make longer journeys less convenient and mean more frequent charging stops.

2. The touchscreen controls are a bit fiddly

You wouldn’t enjoy having to navigate menus on a touchscreen to operate so many functions. Even adjusting the heated seats involves digging through countless menus, which is unnecessarily complicated when driving.

3. It’s not that much fun to drive

I find that the suspension can feel firm and unsettled over bumps, making it a little frustrating to drive over rougher roads. The steering also lacks feedback, making the EX5 less enjoyable on twisty roads. It’s perfectly adequate for everyday driving, but not a car that’ll get your pulse going.
