As with other Mercedes models which offer Polar white as a free colour, it works fine on the CLA, but unsurprisingly it’s a bit plain, and surely the point of buying the CLA is that you want it to look good rather than look like white-goods?

Metallic - Cosmos black
£625
Like Mountain grey, Cosmos black is a smart, sensible choice for the CLA that does end up looking a tiny bit dull. Sportier AMG models flesh it out a little more with bodykits, chrome, and red pinstripes but for the most part it’s just a bit too safe.
Metallic - High tech silver
£625
Metallic - Hyper blue

Metallic - Mountain grey
£625
As with Digital white, Mountain grey just has the effect of blurring out the CLA’s lines a bit too much. It’s a safe, sensible colour choice but if you’re buying a car whose whole point is to be a stylish four-door coupe, then there are better options.
Metallic - Spectral blue
£625
Manufaktur metallic - Patagonia red
£825
Here’s a case in point — Patagonia red is a high-end Manufaktur paint option that’s only slightly more expensive than a regular metallic, and is less than half the price of the Mountain grey magno. It also looks terrific on the CLA’s shape, and with a smaller car such as this (compared to a CLS or E-Class) you can get away with a more strident shade.
Manufaktur magno - Mountain grey
£1,825
This matte-finish version of Mountain grey is certainly striking on the CLA’s low and flowing lines, but it’s going to be tricky to look after and at this price we’re not sure it’s bringing quite enough extra over some of the more affordable options.
