Car changing is a big deal
The Volkswagen ID7 is a super-comfy electric car with plenty of space and a superb range. There’s a lot to like, including the price when you lease one – here’s how to get the best deal.
If you want an electric family car, you might naturally be drawn to some of the fantastic electric SUVs out there. A huge range is available, from the cheap ‘n’ cheerful like the Jaecoo E5 and MG S5 EV right up to the luxurious and long-range Mercedes GLC EV and BMW iX3. You can even go ultra-luxe with the Mercedes EQS SUV or Porsche Cayenne Electric.
But if you don’t want something as high-up and blocky as an SUV, Volkswagen has a great answer. The Volkswagen ID7 has absolutely tons of interior space but masks it in a classy, sleek body. It looks like a saloon but has the practicality of a hatchback boot, and you can even get a capacious estate model. Best of all, it’s comfy to drive and has a really long range – and right now, it’s amazing value on a Carwow lease deal. Here are some of the other reasons it’s so good.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
Three good things about the Volkswagen ID7
1. It can do more than 400 miles on a charge
Basic ‘Pro’ versions of the ID7 get a 77kWh battery pack which returns a still-impressive 368 miles on a charge if you go for the well-specific ‘Match Plus’ model. But for the same price on a monthly lease you can upgrade to the larger Pro S version which has an 86kWh battery good for a claimed 436 miles of range. Even in the real world, 400+ miles should be just about possible if you have light feet.
2. It’s super-comfy

It’s a good thing the ID7 has such a long range because it feels like it was built specifically for extended motorway journeys. It’s more than powerful enough but it’s also really quiet, very comfortable, and Volkswagen’s ‘Travel Assist’ features include some of the best assisted driving tech around.
3. It’s way more practical than you think

We’ve almost become conditioned to think that SUV = practical. But the ID7 actually has more rear legroom than the equivalent ID4, and its boot is almost the same size. If you need even more room, the ID7 Tourer has it, with a bigger, squarer boot.
Volkswagen ID7 prices and deals
With a price tag of more than £50,000, the Volkswagen ID7 isn’t exactly cheap to buy. You can save nearly £3,000 through Carwow – but the best deals are to be found when leasing.
You can lease a Volkswagen ID7 in the long-range Pro S Match Plus form for just £318 per month, over 24 months with a £4,100 deposit. If you want to extend that to 10,000 miles and make the most of that 400+ mile range, your terms only go up to £4,300 and £336 per month.
It’s worth considering carefully before you commit to two years of ownership, though – and here are three reasons you might want to look at other cars besides the ID7.
Three annoying things about the Volkswagen ID7
1. The interior isn’t the best

The ID7’s interior feels well-built and roomy, but it’s not very exciting. The dashboard and seat upholstery are both dark, meaning the ID7 can feel quite claustrophobic even with all that space. There isn’t an option for a lighter interior shade, though the panoramic sunroof available as an extra does improve matters.
2. No buttons – and a glitchy touchscreen

If you like analogue dials, clicky buttons and an easy-to-use dashboard then look away as this probably isn’t the car for you. The ID7 is so button-free that you even adjust the direction of the air vents through the central touchscreen. That screen itself may be big and clear but it’s a bit glitchy, freezing and lagging often.
3. It’s no fun to drive

Cars like the BMW iX3 have shown us that for a similar price, it’s possible to make a large, heavy electric car feel quite nimble and fun in the corners. The ID7 didn’t get that memo. It’s fine, but it feels very big and heavy on a tight road and even round town you feel quite unwieldy driving it. That’s the price you pay for those superb motorway manners.
These are all pretty minor points, though. The ID7 is still a great family EV – as we found out when we lived with one for six months – and at this price it’s also absolutely stellar value.
