The 10 fastest SUVs we’ve ever raced on Carwow
June 10, 2025 by Jamie Edkins

Car changing is a big deal
We’ve been holding drag races for years, and in that time we’ve featured well over 600 different cars – including many SUVs. Here are the 10 fastest SUVs ever featured on the Carwow YouTube channel.
If you go back 20 years or so, SUVs were simply a tool for ferrying the kids around to school or going to the shops. They certainly weren’t known for their supercar-slaying performance, but these days there are plenty of these jacked-up family cars which can scare Lamborghinis in a traffic light Grand Prix.
We’ve featured hundreds of SUVs in Carwow drag race videos over the years, one of which even managed a 10.0-second quarter-mile. Here are 10 of the fastest SUVs we’ve ever timed up the Carwow drag strip.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can also sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
The 10 fastest SUVs we’ve drag raced are:
- Tesla Model X Plaid
- Tesla Model X Dual-Motor
- Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT
- Audi RS Q e-tron Dakar
- Lotus Eletre
- Brabus 900 Superblack 900 GLS
- Ferrari Purosangue
- Bentley Bentayga Speed
- Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid
- Lamborghini Urus
1. Tesla Model X Plaid – 10.0-second quarter-mile
As performance SUVs go, it was always going to be hard to beat the Tesla Model X Plaid. It has a tri-motor setup, all-wheel drive and 1,020hp. Even its 2,500kg heft didn’t prevent it from beating a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, and it was so close to the Ferrari SF90 over the line that the winner is still up for debate to this day.
2. Tesla Model X Performance – 11.2-second quarter-mile

And second place also goes to the Tesla Model X, this time the old dual-motor version. It may not be as bonkers as the Plaid, but it still has 780hp on tap and narrowly beat the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT in a drag race, but only by a nose.
3. Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT – 11.2-second quarter-mile

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT managed the same quarter-mile time as the Model X dual-motor. It’s powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which produces 640hp and 850Nm of torque. Not as much as the Tesla, but at 2,220kg it is around 250kg lighter.
4. Audi RS Q e-tron Dakar rally car – 11.2-second quarter-mile

Calling this beast an SUV may be a bit of a stretch. The Audi RS Q e-tron was built to tackle the fearsome Dakar Rally – a race which spans hundreds of miles across tough desert terrain. It’s powered by two electric motors and a 2.0-litre petrol engine to produce a combined 680hp, and it was quick enough to thrash an Audi R8 V10 in a drag race.
5. Lotus Eletre R – 11.3-second quarter-mile

The Lotus Eletre R is a radical departure from anything the British sports car brand has built before. It’s a 900hp, 2.6-tonne electric SUV which certainly raised some eyebrows among fans of the lightweight sports cars Lotus is known for. Despite this enormous heft, and some soggy track conditions on the day, the Eletre R beat a Lamborghini Urus Performante by 0.7 of a second.
6. Brabus 900 Superblack GLS – 11.3-second quarter-mile

Brabus has a long-standing history of building insane cars, and the 900 Superblack GLS is a prime example. It started life as an ultra-luxurious Mercedes GLS, but the V8 engine has been uprated from 4.0-litres to 4.5-litres, and it now produces a whopping 900hp and 1,050Nm of torque. Despite weighing 2,800kg, this car is faster than a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso.
7. Ferrari Purosangue – 11.4-second quarter-mile time

Ferrari insists that the Purosangue is not an SUV, but we beg to differ. Whatever you call it, this raised-up four-door has a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 putting out 725hp to all four wheels. Despite this colossal power, the Purosangue simply couldn’t hold a candle to the SF90, 296 GTB or the 812 GTS in our Ferrari drag race.
8. Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid – 11.4-second quarter-mile

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT was taken off sale in Europe a couple of years ago thanks to ever-tightening emissions regulations, and now the Turbo E-Hybrid is the fastest Cayenne you can buy in the UK. It has a 4.0-litre V8 engine, paired with an electric motor, making a combined 739hp. It managed to fend off the Ferrari Purosangue, the Lamborghini Urus SE and the Audi RS Q8 Performance in our latest hyper-SUV drag race.
9. Bentley Bentayga Speed – 11.5-second quarter-mile

This is the old Bentley Bentayga Speed, which was the fastest SUV in the world when it was new with a top speed of 190mph. That’s been beaten now by the Aston Martin DBX 707, but the Speed is still one of the fastest SUVs we’ve ever featured in a drag race thanks to its 6.0-litre W12 engine putting out 635hp.
10. Lamborghini Urus SE – 11.5-second quarter-mile

When you think of a super-SUV, the Lamborghini Urus is probably the first car which springs to mind. The new hybrid SE model is the quickest one we’ve featured, although surprisingly the standard car also managed almost exactly the same quarter-mile time. The SE has a 4.0-litre V8 engine and an electric motor, making a combined 800hp.
