Why should you buy the new Nissan Pixo over the Renault Twingo? New small EV revealed

The 2027 Nissan Pixo is a small, affordable electric car which shares most of its parts with the Renault Twingo. Why should you buy the Nissan instead? News editor Jamie Edkins dives into the numbers to find out.
This is the new Nissan Pixo, and it’s got a lot in common with the Renault Twingo. It revives a name we’ve not seen on a city car in years, but more importantly it’s basically the same as a Twingo under the skin.
Renault and Nissan have worked together on EVs before, namely the Renault 5 and Nissan Micra, and the new Pixo follows the same recipe: take Renault’s excellent small EV and give it a less retro-inspired makeover.
New Nissan Pixo design and interior
The design is the main thing differentiating the new Nissan Pixo from the Renault Twingo. You can tell it shares the same proportions as the Renault, but the styling is less retro and more boxy.
The front end is more upright than the Twingo’s, and the headlights are angular with sharp LED graphics. The rear lights are unique to the Pixo as well, as are the alloy wheel designs.
Moving inside, the Pixo has the same 10.0-inch touchscreen as the Twingo, meaning it should be very easy to use, as well as the same row of physical dials for the climate control. It’s not quite as bright inside as the Renault thanks to the lack of body-coloured trim, but the red air vent surrounds lift things nicely.
New Nissan Pixo batteries and range
Beneath the two different bodies, the Nissan Pixo and Renault 5 are basically identical. This means they use the same battery and motor, but the stats are slightly different.

The Twingo’s claimed range is four miles more than the Pixo’s, but the Nissan comes with 50kW DC fast charging as standard across the range. It’s an optional extra on the Twingo.
If you’re considering the Pixo, you could also consider the Dacia Spring. It also shares parts with the Twingo, but it has 155 miles of range. A Leapmotor T03 will go 165 miles on a charge, while the Citroen e-C3 has up to 199 miles of range.
New Nissan Pixo space and practicality
Being based on the Twingo means the new Nissan Pixo will be really spacious inside, by small car standards. It has the same sliding rear seat arrangement as that car, so you can sacrifice a bit of boot space to get a good amount of rear legroom.
With those seats all the way forward you have 356 litres of boot space, which is within a few litres of the Twingo and around double the size of the Honda Super N’s boot.
When can I buy the new Nissan Pixo?
The Nissan Pixo will go on sale at the start of 2027, but prices still haven’t been confirmed.
The Renault Twingo starts from less than £20,000, but that car doesn’t have DC charging as standard. Given the Pixo does get that capability out of the box, it could have a slightly higher starting price. We’d still expect it to float around the £20,000 mark though.
So why should you buy this instead of a Renault Twingo? Well it’ll simply be down to which design you like the most, and which car has the best deals on when you come to buy. We’ve not driven the Pixo yet, but we have no reason to suspect it won’t be as good as the Renault.
