An SUV version of the Polestar 4 is coming in September this year, but Carwow’s spy photographers have caught a glimpse of it at the Nurburgring during development testing. News editor Jamie Edkins tells you everything you need to know about this car.

This is the new Polestar 4 SUV, and it’s a bit like a Louis Vuitton backpack. That’s because it’s just as trendy and stylish as a handbag, but it’s a more practical, versatile shape.

It’ll essentially be a Polestar 4 saloon with a squared-off roofline, making it more appealing to families and dog owners and an alternative to cars like the Porsche Macan EV and BMW iX. A full reveal is coming in September, but our spy photographers have snapped the Polestar 4 SUV in disguise during development testing.

New Polestar 4 SUV design: unlikely to be any surprises

All we have to go on at the moment are these camouflaged spy shots of the Polestar 4 SUV, as well as a teaser image of the rear three-quarter.

Despite this, you still get a pretty good idea of what this car will look like. From the front, it appears to be exactly the same as the saloon version. You can see the quad headlamp design poking through the wrap, and there’s no disguising that sporty sloping bonnet line.

This test car has some lifestyle-y roof bars, something you can’t get on the saloon, but it’s the rear where you see the biggest change.

It looks a bit like a cross between an SUV and an estate car – a bit like an Audi A6 Allroad. You can just about make out the full-width rear lightbar, and from the official teaser image it looks as though it kicks down at the ends like it does on the saloon.

You also can’t forget about the rear window. That’s not a big deal on most cars, but the current Polestar 4 doesn’t have one. It uses a suite of cameras to show you what’s behind instead, so this SUV will be much more dog-friendly.

From some angles you can just about catch a glimpse of the interior, and it seems to have a similar large central touchscreen to the four-door car. You can expect the Polestar 4 SUV to share pretty much the same interior as that car, meaning it’ll be minimalist and very nicely built.

New Polestar 4 SUV motors and batteries

There are no official details about what’s powering the Polestar 4 SUV, but it’s safe to assume that it’ll use the same parts as the saloon. This means you’ll likely be able to choose between a rear-wheel drive model with around 270hp, or a dual-motor car with 544hp.

The current Polestar 4 also comes with a 100kWh battery giving you up to 385 miles of range. The SUV version may be slightly less aerodynamic than the saloon thanks to its boxier shape, but we don’t expect less than 380 miles of range.

New Polestar 4 SUV: when can I buy one?

The new Polestar 4 SUV will be revealed on 2 September 2026, and order books will open at the same time. First deliveries are therefore likely to be towards the end of the year.

The Polestar 4 saloon currently starts from just under £57,000, although Polestar has an offer on at the moment which reduces this to £50,250. The SUV version is likely to cost around the same, if not a smidge more.
