Car changing is a big deal
This all-electric family hatchback has smart styling and a well-sized boot. The best part? You can snag a used example that’s just two years old from less than £15,500.
Vauxhall has taken one of its most popular family hatchbacks and created an all-electric version that retains the familiar character of the original while making it easy to drive around town.
I’m talking about the Vauxhall Astra Electric, which could be yours for less than £15,500 when buying used through Carwow.

Buy this used Vauxhall Astra Electric from less than £15,500*

The GS version of the Vauxhall Astra Electric typically starts at £31,495 new, but I’ve found a used example from 2024 with the same trim for less than £15,500. It offers a claimed range of 259 miles and has covered just 16,360 miles, all for £15,299.
You also get features such as:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- Dual zone electronic climate control
- Drivers ergonomic active sports-style seat
- Heated front seats and steering wheel
- 360-degree panoramic parking camera
- Adaptive cruise control
Why should you buy a Vauxhall Astra Electric?
I’d recommend this car because it’s a stylish, comfortable family hatchback that makes the switch to electric motoring easy. It’s smooth to drive around town, comes with plenty of standard equipment and offers a claimed range of up to 258 miles. That makes it well suited to everyday journeys, from running errands to the school run, although it may be less appealing if you regularly cover long distances.

However, rear-seat space is a little tight for adults, the boot is smaller than some alternatives and motorway driving can significantly reduce its range. The infotainment system can also feel sluggish.
Overall, the Astra Electric is a sensible choice if you want a familiar, easy-to-drive electric family car, but alternatives such as the MG4 and Volkswagen ID3 may offer more space or range, depending on the version.
What other cars should you consider?
Here are three other electric hatchbacks to have a look at:
- MG4: Fantastic price/range ratio but it’s rather noisy on the motorway.
- Renault Megane E-Tech: High-quality interior but it has limited rear headroom.
- Volkswagen ID3: Comfortable to drive long distances but its large alloy wheels affect comfort in town.
