Car changing is a big deal

The free, easy way to change your car online

The Jaecoo 7 is hugely popular right now, and that means you all have a lot of questions about it. News editor Jamie Edkins answers some of the more frequently asked questions.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last two years, you’ve probably seen a lot of Jaecoo 7’s popping up on roads near you. It’s currently the second most-popular car in 2026 so far, with close to 40,000 of them finding homes this year.

This surge in popularity, combined with the fact Jaecoo is a reasonably new brand, means people are naturally curious about these cars and have a lot of questions about them. That’s why our full, in-depth review of the Jaecoo 7 is frequently among the most-read reviews on Carwow.

Obviously, the most-asked question on Google is “is the Jaecoo 7 any good?”, and you can get the answer to that one in our review. Here, I’m going to go over some of the more specific queries people have using Google’s autocomplete.

Is the Jaecoo 7…

A seven seater?

No, the Jaecoo 7 isn’t a seven seater. You can only fit five people in this car, but if you want a car from the same brand with space for seven then you can check out the Jaecoo 8.

A self-charging hybrid?

Yes, you can get the Jaecoo 7 as a self-charging hybrid. It’s called the SHS-H , and it uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor to make a combined 224hp.

It can drive at low speeds using electric power alone, and should be able to return 50mpg. You can also get a plug-in hybrid called the SHS-P, and that car can do up to 56 miles on electric power alone if you charge the battery.

There’s also the 1.6-litre petrol with 147hp, but this is best-avoided as it’s quite thirsty and noisy.

Fully electric?

The Jaecoo 7 is not fully electric. You could go for the plug-in hybrid if you fancy a taste of EV life, or you could get the smaller Jaecoo E5 if you want an electric car from this brand.

The E5 is the only electric Jaecoo currently on offer

Alternatively, if you want a similar-sized electric SUV for around £30,000, you could check out the Geely EX5, Skoda Elroq or the Kia EV3.

Can the Jaecoo 7…

Tow a caravan?

You can tow a small to medium-sized caravan with the Jaecoo 7, depending on which engine you go for. The plug-in hybrid can tow the most at 1,500kg, followed by the petrol version at 1,350kg. The self-charging hybrid can tow 750kg, so is only really suitable for trailer tents.

If you’re after a car which can tow more for similar money to the Jaecoo 7, we’d recommend the diesel Skoda Karoq. It can tow up to 2,100kg, and costs from around £40,000. You can also save an average of more than £8,000 at the time of writing.

Self park?

In the UK, no it can’t. In some markets the Jaecoo 7 is available with “Super Intelligent Valet Parking” which can control the steering for you to get into tight spaces without input from you, but this isn’t available here yet.

The Omoda 7 offers a self-parking system

However, the mechanically-similar Omoda 7 does offer a similar system. Check out deals on that car if you want something with self-parking.

Does the Jaecoo 7…

PHEV self charge?

Yes it does. The Jaecoo 7 PHEV has a Smart Mode for the hybrid system which can keep a bit of charge in the battery for when you need it around town, as well as use the engine to top it up. You do need to plug the car in to get the most out of it, but it will charge itself to a degree,

Have heated rear seats?

Certain versions of the Jaecoo 7 do have heated rear seats. The top-spec Luxury car with the petrol engine, as well as the self-charging hybrid in Deluxe trim. You can’t get this on the plug-in hybrid model.

Come with a charging cable?

Yes, if you get the plug-in hybrid you get a charging cable as standard.
