  • New Mazda MX-5 revealed
  • Minor facelift for iconic roadster
  • Tweaked exterior styling
  • New infotainment system
  • Upgraded safety kit
  • On sale in March 2024

This is the updated Mazda MX-5, and the brand has tweaked its iconic sports car for 2024 to keep it fresh in the face of alternatives such as the Toyota GR86.

It gets refreshed styling and some new tech, and you can have one on your driveway in March 2024.

New Mazda MX-5 design

Being a mid-life facelift, design changes for this new Mazda MX-5 aren’t revolutionary. They’re limited to some new lights and tweaked bumpers.

The slim headlights have a slightly different shape, as well as a new LED signature pattern. You also have some new vents in the lower bumper, and there are some new paint schemes available as well.

You have some new alloy wheel designs to choose from, and the taillights have been updated to make them look more modern. You still have a choice between a fabric soft top and the more coupe-esque RF with a folding metal roof.

New Mazda MX-5 interior and infotainment

While the design of the MX-5’s cabin is unchanged, there is some new technology on board to make the car easier to live with in the modern age.

The main change is the 8.8-inch infotainment screen, a decent upgrade on the 7.0-inch screen you get in the current car. The USB ports have also been upgraded to USB-Cs, and you get wireless Apple CarPlay as standard.

New Mazda MX-5 engines and driving

The engine options for the updated Mazda MX-5 are exactly the same as the current car, meaning you can get a 1.5-litre petrol with 132hp or a 2.0-litre unit with 184hp. Go for the latter and you get some upgrades to make the car sharper to drive. That car gets additional bracing, a limited-slip differential and Bilstein dampers to further stiffen things up.

See how every generation of MX-5 compare in a drag race…

In addition to the fun stuff, the new MX-5 also has a raft of new safety features. All cars now get lane-keeping assist and intelligent speed recognition as standard, while the traffic sign recognition has been updated with improved sign detection.

When can I buy the new Mazda MX-5?

The new Mazda MX-5 will arrive in the UK in March 2024, and pricing won’t be announced until nearer this time. You can expect it to fetch a slight premium over the current car though, with a figure of around £27,000 likely.
