The new Lucid Air has gone on sale in the USA with up to 520 miles of range, and it’s set to go on sale in Europe in June.

This alternative to the Tesla Model S and Audi e-tron GT also has up to 1,111hp and is packed with technology.

New Lucid Air design

The new Lucid Air needs to stand out from the crowd if it’s going to tempt you away from the futuristic Mercedes EQS and stunning Porsche Taycan. Handily, it looks pretty eye-catching.

The front end has a sleek and aggressive look, with the narrow grille and a set of ultra-slim LED headlights that give it real presence. The overall design is pretty minimalistic, with only a few vents cut into the bumper to cool the car’s electrical systems.

Down the side, wheel sizes start at 19 inches and rise to 21. The pinched doors and swooping roofline make the Air look hunkered down and aerodynamic. The flush door handles (like those on a Mercedes EQS) also do their bit to help reduce drag.

At the rear, the clean design theme continues. There are no fake vents here, just a funky-looking brake-light assembly that spans the full width of the boot lid.

New Lucid Air interior and infotainment

The interior of the new Lucid Air is just as impressive to look at as the car’s exterior. Everything looks premium and the design stands out from other upmarket electric saloon cars.

As you’d expect in a luxury EV, there are plenty of screens dotted about the cabin, including a digital driver’s display and infotainment system contained within one panel on top of the dash. The full-length panoramic roof brings a light and airy feel to the interior.

There’s a screen lower down containing the vehicle settings, and this can electronically slide away to open-up additional storage space. Physical climate controls have also been very well integrated into the interior.

New Lucid air motors and batteries

All Lucid Air models feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and the base model comes with 406 miles of range.

Step up to the Grand Touring model and you get 516 miles of range, while a range-topping Dream Edition has an impressive 520 miles of claimed range. That’s around 40 miles further than you can go in the longest-range Mercedes EQS and 115 miles more than a standard Tesla Model S.

As for power, the base level Pure model gets 480hp. This figure increases as you go up the range, climbing to 1,111hp in the Dream Edition Performance. This model can do 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds and go on to a top speed of 168mph.

But, will that be enough to out-pace the Tesla Model S Plaid? Watch this video to find out how quick the Air needs to be…

All Lucid Air models come with fast charging capability as standard, meaning you can add 300 miles of range to its batteries in just 20 minutes.

New Lucid Air: how much does it cost?

The Lucid Air starts from $77,400 in the USA, or around £62,000 for the Pure model, climbing to $169,000 (£135,000) for the range-topping Dream Edition Performance.

Sales have already started in the USA, and the Lucid Air is set to go on sale in Germany in June this year. UK buyers need not reach for their wallets just yet, as there’s no word on when (or if) it will hit our shores.
