This is the new Brabus XLP 800 Adventure, a carbon-clad pickup truck based on the Mercedes-AMG G63 which has been given a whole host of upgrades to make it pretty much unstoppable off-road.

It has clever axles, a raised ride height and massive tyres, as well as a twin-turbocharged V8 engine with 800hp. It certainly stands out, as it should for more than £600,000.

Brabus XLP 800 Adventure design and interior

Brabus knows how to make a statement, and the new XLP Adventure 800 does just that. It’s based on the Mercedes-AMG G63, which is already pretty brash, and adds a much more aggressive-looking bodykit.

All around the lower edge of the car you’ll find widened carbon fibre wheel arches and side skirts, and the chunky front bumper has a winch built into it. There’s also a light bar mounted to the massive roof rack.

This car is also slightly longer than the standard G-Class – there’s an extra 50cm between the front and rear wheels. The 22-inch alloys are unique to this car as well.

Step inside and you can customise your Brabus XLP 800 Adventure pretty much however you want. This one has a rather lovely blue leather interior with plenty of carbon fibre, but the sky (and your wallet) is the limit in terms of personalisation.

Brabus XLP 800 Adventure suspension and chassis

The XLP 800 Adventure is designed to go anywhere, as the name suggests. The standard G-Wagen is a hugely capable car off-road, but this Brabus is packing a few upgrades to make it even better on the rough stuff.

Underneath you have something called portal axles, which essentially raise the chassis above the wheel mounting points to give you much better ground clearance. It allows you to raise the ride height without there being any beams in the way.

It also gets adjustable suspension and upgraded linkages made of aluminium, so this thing can take some serious punishment.

Brabus XLP 800 Adventure engine and performance

Under the bonnet of this truck is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, much like the one you’ll find in the Mercedes-AMG G63. It’s been upgraded though for added power.

It gets tweaked turbos and a new exhaust system, as well as an ECU tune, to give you 800hp and 1,000Nm of torque – more than 200hp more than the standard G63. As a result 0-62mph is dispatched in just 4.8 seconds. That’s actually 0.4 of a second slower than the G63, but the XLP 800 Adventure is much heavier and the huge tyres also won’t help things.

Brabus XLP 800 Adventure price

All this phenomenal engineering does come at a price, because the Brabus XLP 800 Adventure costs over £600,000.

That’s over three times as much as a Mercedes-AMG G63, and for the same money you could also have six Tesla Cybertrucks. Still, that’s the price you pay for a car which is built to order like this one.
